No I didn't join a club, I stick to 1200 cals a day.
Stopped drinking through the week, I just have a couple of lagers and a couple of vodkas with diet lemonade on Sarurday nights now.
The key to what worked for me is to stick to meals with no more than 5/6 grams of fat and check the carbs of which are sugars. I try and stick to things with less than 6 in of those. I swapped bran flake/ corn flakes for weetabix because they have far less sugars in and if you don't use the energy up, the body stores it.
Fill up with loads of veg and salad, make sure you eat enough, otherwise your body will go into store mode and it's much harder to shift the weight.
One last tip I've found that helped me more than anything, throw the darn scales away. They can be wonderful when you lose 3 or 4 pound, but the devil if you have not lost or gained a pound. Try and weigh yourself every few weeks, and when you find you've dropped 7lbs it really gives you the boost you need to carry on.
