I know lots of us are trying to lose weight so come here to share success, not so successful weeks, hints and tips, cravings, goals, what you want to get out of losing weight, why your losing weight ect.

I'll start Smiler I have 5 stone to lose and am on day 5 of attempt *counts fingers and toes* *runs out of things to count* gawd knows what attempt i am on Laugh

I want to be healthy and more confident and be able to buy trendy clothes, i want my knees to stop creaking, i want to not always be tired, i want to look in the mirror and think "looking good" I don't want to have to go out and sit with my bag in front of my belly or my arms crossed all night.... i don't want to be the "funny one" and nothing more.

Eeker that's an awaful lot of wants Laugh

but mostly i don't want to die young and if i don't do something now that's where i am heading!

As a subtext i also want to meet someone to spend the rest of my life with, but i wouldn't want someone who wouldn't want me no matter my size, but as i don't much like myself at the moment i can't really expect anyone else too.

And on that cheery note Laugh

Yay, thanks Yogi Valentine

I'm one of these people who pretend they are happy as they are when really if there was a tablet I could take to make me a size 12 tomorrow, I'd kill to get it! Up until very recently, I have been happyish with myself, but having just got a glance of myself in white trousers and a strappy vest in a full length mirror, I can now say, I do not like my body at all.

Diets don't work, we all know that, so I am not focusing on a diet as such, I just want to break my addiction to food. I don't want to eat unless I'm hungry, just like slim folk do.

I like the Paul McKenna way - eat what you really want, as long as you are hungry, and really take time to enjoy it. I wolf down food every day and barely notice I'm eating it.

So, I'm treating it like an addiction. I am going to try and break my addiction to eating to cure boredom/sadness/anger etc. Everytime I go to the kitchen I shall turn around and post on here instead Big Grin

And good luck, Yogi!

Hiya Yogi Hug

I know exactly wha you mean and feel about the weight.
I've gone from a size 28 down to a 18/20 so far goal is a size 16. The problem I have at the mo is I've plateaued out so I think now I need to step up on the exercising Big Grin

Wishing you the very best of luck on losing your weight. Not sure how you're going about it but make sure it's something you're comfortable with and that you can make it a lifestyle change and not just a diet, okay Big Grin

Diets don't work in my personal experience Frowner

I would recommend scottish slimmers btw... i don't see it as a diet but retraining my mind in regards to food.

My biggest problem is crisps... i love crisps... i could live on crisps... but i have gone 33 days with no crisps at all trying to break the cycle of eating them when i am bored and while waiting for my "proper" food to cook Blush

I'll never go to a weight loss class again, I hate people making money out of people's addiction. There would be outcry if people had to pay for help with alcohol addiction.

I first attended weight watchers when I was 10st 6lb at the age of 20. I got down to 8st 12lb but it was the worst thing I ever did, the start of my yo-yo dieting. I put it all back on and more, and kept repeating the cycle with a variety of different classes . Never again!

That said, they do work for some Big Grin

In what way did you change your lifestyle to achieve what you already have?

The first thing to be cut down was cheese believe it or not. Used to have it twice a day Eeker now have it once a week if that. Also never ate fruit and veg now insist on having my 5 portions a day. Also very rarely drank water, now make sure I have 2 and half litres a day. Chips happen very occassionally used to be almost daily. Now eat loads of new potatoes, mash, small portions of pasta or rice. No crisps or other snacks pass my lips as I head for the fruit bowl instead. Takeaways are now for very special occassions (sp?). There's not alot more I can do to adjust my diet now apart from eat breakfast. So that's what makes me think that I need to step up on the exercise Big Grin

Sounds very healthy Clapping I eat too much cheese I think Nod The water thing is so important. I like to focus on what I can do, not can't, so I shall drink more water. The silly thing is, I love water, but when I'm in the kitchen, a custard cream seems to be in my mouth before I get as far as picking up a glass to fill with water.

there was something on the telly last year, a group of people with major weight problems walked from london to edinburgh, eating healthily at stop-overs. a few dropped out but those that stuck at it lost loads.

i feel like i need something like that with someone kicking me up the arse and putting healthy food in front of me Laugh something where you know at the end of that time you'll see a difference. it's the long game that gets me, the slowness in seeing results...
i lack will power and 'forget' i'm trying to be good and eat ket. i need to get my shit together and get motivated.

I didn't do all this overnight and you are thinking in the right direction start with something that is easy to rectify. Like the will power to bypass that biscuit tin to get to the tap. My weight has taken 2 years to lose, yes that's a long time but it took along time to put on, and I know once I reach my goal weight I'm not going to put twice as much on that I lost on diets Nod
Take small steps at a time and that will seem more achievable than looking at the whole picture, okay?

My trick here is to eat on my own (not always possible I know). Not watching TV or listening to the radio or reading a book or magazine AND with my eyes closed (so there is no visual distraction. Then you can concentrate on the food you are eating and by concentrating on what you're eating you automatically slow down your consunption - almost unconsciously! Smiler

He talks sense, doesn't he? Thumbs Up
He does. A lot of what he says i knew before and adhere to, or try to. But there are a few additional things he says that add to what I already strive for. Fortunately for me I'm only slightly (relatively speaking) over weight, but I'll still feel more comfortable once those last few pound are gone. Smiler

I used to like crisps too. Can't remember how it happened but went for about 6 months without a crisp (didn't really miss them) then one day at work I had not had time to make my sandwiches before coming in and didn't fancy anything that was on the canteen menu so bought a couple of packets of crisps and although I ate them (coz I was hungry) I didn't actually like them, so have not had a crisp (or the desire for one) since.

You'd be surprised at how much LESS hungry you get during the rest of the day if you eat a good healthy breakfast. Smiler
Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing
In the first instance, if you're not used to having a breakfast then anything reasonably healthy will do. I generally have a bowl of bran flakes, but sometimes an omelette or scrambled eggs. Bacon and eggs is quite good too, but obviously not if it's fat laden. Latest research seems to show that a protein breakfast seems to keep you feeling fuller for longer.
PS That doesn't have to be 100% protein. Smiler

Tartan I'm kinda glad someone feels the same way as me about food and dieting. It may sound silly but I definitly do have an addiction and it really saddens me to have to actually come out and say it. It's embarassing.

I'm the same... normal people get cravings, normal people don't sit and think about what they are going to have for tea as they sit having their breakfast.

It's not embarassing ella Hug lots of us are like that... me and my mum among them
