It shouldn't be because it will be the same Forum as here - that's been my understanding anyway. I think the only difference will be in the "quoting" in posts, and that could be a good thing because too many posts have too many quotes which are difficult to follow who said what. That must be difficult for the Mods as well when checking threads.
The other facilities at Live Cloud are optional, so I think many will use the Forum as it's used here, hopefully lol
I had reservations about the changes, and was initially frustrated and perplexed at the sign up procedure alone. I do loathe change, but if it is imposed and inevitable, imho I feel it's best to weigh up the costs/benefits and make a decision quickly. Saving the existing forum community is one benefit, and one cost is adapting to the change and yes, that may be quite an effort for some of us.
However, in just a few days, the bugs I noticed have been fixed, no doubt due to all the dedicated FMs who tried it out and had the time, tenacity, and ability, to highlight the problems to those who would address them.
I really value that...you know, the community spirit where people muck in for the greater good, although some of us may feel guilty that we didn't jump, but were pushed
I've had a good nose around, and ok, I work in IT and would be ashamed if I was struggling after a few minutes...but hey, there's no harm in taking time to have a gander, maybe add a buddy or two, or even spot the yellow triangle and find that already, someone wants to be your buddy (Thanks, Ditty! )
There's loads of support visible at the moment, so get stuck in, or make people sad, and leave
I think this must be my longest post ever
Gwarn, don't be scared!

If you don't like it you don't have to come.
I think it comes down to
1. We have no choice but it is free
2. Like a family we have our rows but we would rather all stay together
3. We can only make the best of it plus make suggestions
4. If you want to you can stroll off to DS but the mods have whips there
5. It isn't that hard to learn how to use and there is help around the place
6. A lot of the bugs have been fixed now BUT
7. Quoting is still rubbish

Can you not just start a new thread clalled 'ZAPHOD NEWS'.
I trust your judgement (as prob many others do) we need someone to guide us ......your own thread with the name in the title would be reassuring.

Have you been over there? it's a very different look and feel TBH ............I'm reserving judgement but ..........it's not somewhere I feel immediately at home .............as I say - I'll reserve judgement.
stop biting your nails and get over there.

Zaphod, you were one of the first to post on my wall and I am eternally grateful to you (and all the others).
I actually think reading the walls is the better place to start. You can just say and it's not too taxing for a lame brain like me.
I couldn't go to DS...posters on there are like sharks whereas so many here are chatty and friendly. It's no contest.

It IS different and I haven't posted on any of the forums there at the moment; am saving myself for when we move.
I'm sure we'll all cling together like a bunch of scaredy cats at first.
I'm taking a rubber ring with me, just in case.

Nice summary Zaphod.
In defence of the quoting (having used it for a few days now)... there is one advantage. It does make you more selective.

No you won't. Loads of us are completely bewildered by it at the moment. When they move us over we'll all just have to make sure we hold hands and we'll all get there safely together.

How would people feel if we were provided with a "guide" to LiveCloud?
When we implement a new IT system where I work, part of the process is training new "users" but thereafter, there is always an explicit guide to using it, usually a pdf (with screen shots and text boxes) that people can save to their PC and peruse at leisure, or when in need of help. We also use test and training versions of systems where people can happily dip their toes without fear.
Online, for forums and whatnot, there are usually "Help" links, with "FAQ".
Would it be possible/relevant for someone to pull together a guide document, or (as I am often asked for!) an "idiot's guide" for LiveCloud thingummies.
Would it be useful, or a waste of time?

just for the record i really do know what im doing over there...im not lost in cyber land my point is that im looking to post on a forum and although i love you all im not going to 'embrace' a whole new way of posting, not being notified etc, not being able to follow thread etc JUST SO we can stay 'together'. Yes there is going to be a forum bit but from what ive seen today (AND YES I CAN USE IT) its not a good forum and would drive me nuts. its an after thought to a facebook type site.
that is all
i fink im going to retire to my orange bum and make some armour for d.s

A FAQ would be helpful.
I'm sure the same questions are being asked time and time again.
Hyper that sounds like a great idea.
I would also like to suggest that anyone who has been over there and feels comfortable offering to "handhold" and guide anyone who is nervous or needs help. Perhaps we could start a thread of people available to help when they are online.

I know what you mean. The format over there just isn't as easy to use as the one here. I'll try and keep going with it and hopefully I'll get used to it because I really do like this community, but I have to agree that it doesn't look as good as this place.
MysTerry, I have seen a post with FAQ about the changes, but such a thing would be equally useful in the new place.
Vanaheim, maybe we could have some kind of identifier for people who are happy to handhold, you know, like the gingerbread man is for buddy adding? People would then know who to approach for quick help.
I'm sure yourself, Z and the Mods are currently among the best informed, but I would be happy to join in when I'm au fait with it all.

Good grief! It's a forum surely? If it needs all this then it can't be a very good forum. It all sounds rather a retrograde step.

I don't know about me being the best informed.. LOL But I have played with it till I broke things and then yelled for help.
Maybe we could suggest that to the mods over there, I'll see what they say. In the meantime I'm happy to handhold anyone when I'm logged in, and it's easy to see who's logged in cos our little men glow yellow and if you just click on the name you go straight to their page.

I agree with you Gypsie. I've been over at LiveCloud too and its a horrid place. Not what I want. GaGaJoy have a very successful model with the forum they gave us since C4 closed, with no complaints from any FM only praise. I cannot understand why they want to impose something else.

I'M WITH YOU!!!! jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez it's an effin forum ..............I think you need a degree to get in there (i actually have a degree and I've eventually got on - I think). The thing is .............once you're there you need an MA or PhD to find your way round.
Now I'm on I will give it a go .......................I just know that we are gonna lose loads and that's really, really sad. We went down in numbers in the oridinal changeover ......................so sad but I think there will be more casuakties

Hiya
Remember when we were relocated to the temporary place, and then here? Sure, some people expressed fear of the unknown, but went to the only available place, regardless.
Another change is announced, and reticence to change seems greater this time, which is a strange paradox.
I'm kinda thinking out loud about what may be useful, but if it's not helpful, I'll shut up
