Hiya Smiler
Remember when we were relocated to the temporary place, and then here? Sure, some people expressed fear of the unknown, but went to the only available place, regardless.

Another change is announced, and reticence to change seems greater this time, which is a strange paradox.

I'm kinda thinking out loud about what may be useful, but if it's not helpful, I'll shut up Big Grin

Actually I think most .......almost 100% were really positive because the format was virtually identical. It was also fairly simple to register.

not ony has this new place been a nightmare to register on (for me anyway) .........the format is quite alien to me and probably other FM's who have only ever been on something like BB or GaGa.

I really and truly dont want to be negative ............i'm just telling it as it is ......................I'm not really liking it TBH.

I agree with you Gypsie. I've been over at LiveCloud too and its a horrid place. Not what I want. GaGaJoy have a very successful model with the forum they gave us since C4 closed, with no complaints from any FM only praise. I cannot understand why they want to impose something else.

there is a payment option...im thinking thats got a lot to do with it Frowner

I know what you mean. The format over there just isn't as easy to use as the one here. I'll try and keep going with it and hopefully I'll get used to it because I really do like this community, but I have to agree that it doesn't look as good as this place. Frowner

it isnt, just a simple forum in its true format, would put that right Nod

Agree Soozy. Even DS, probably the biggest Forum in the world, has a very simple easy to use format.

Hi Soozy.

I posted earlier in this thread, saying I loathe change. I posted on the sticky thread (that is no longer there) about my difficulties with registering.

No, I'm not keen on the format, and yes, I appreciate that others might agree.

On the other hand, if the only alternative was using another forum, where you preferred the format, but where you weren't familiar with the posters, the moderation was harsh, etc., or, you just bail out and think "stuff it", what would you choose to do?

I don't like it much either, but imho, the alternatives are worse.

But most importantly, for me anyway, I really enjoy reading the posts by the people here, and it wouldn't matter to me if we all posted on a generic blog, a visitor's book, a forum, or in chalk on the pavement.

We have common ground in BB, and it has held many posters together, since the C4 forums were first available.

Anyhoo, I'll get off me horse and drink me milk now Hug

I quite agree but .............for a real technophobe like me it's gonna be hard. I'm truly not being deliberately belligerent ..............I just seriously worry that we will fall drastically in number. Hug

Then don't blog. Nobody is making you.

But where is the forum Dave?
I can`t find one in LiveCloud.
(Or am I completely misunderstanding the whole thing?) Will this forum which I now love, remain?
If so I have no worries.

But now I feel that we will all start to drift away in different directions so very soon and that is quite upsetting.

When you go over there, look at the top, the black band. See where it says Sites? Gaga will appear there so that you can always find it. Right now the only forums there are our support forums. Have a look and you'll get an idea of what gaga will look like.

Now that's a bit more like it. I feel a tad more optimistic. Thumbs Up Perhaps I've made my move too early ........you wouldn't believe some of the communities I've registered with Laugh

Soozy, I'm sure you're right, there will be a fall in numbers, to begin with. I think there's in excess of 1000 members here, although a fair amount of them have never posted.

I disagree that you are a technophobe though, since you are posting on a forum.

And you're doing pretty well for someone who might purport to loathe or fear technology Hug

We'll take that as a compliment. It was our company that pioneered it, 10 years ago. The software they use is an offshoot of ours.

did you not think it would catch on? hence the change  :MORECONFUSED:
FM
I don't quite know what you're asking, but did it catch on? Yes, darned near every piece of forum software out there looks similar to ours. So.... I don't get the sentiment that we have to stay locked in time, stuck with what we developed 10 years and can't advance, ever, being perfectly happy that everyone else looks like us.

Actually, DS is not that good compared to many forums. It's quite old-fashioned in many respects. I would never bother registering there.

Yes Pants, just takes a bit of playing about with, I'm getting the hang of it pretty quickly after initially being a bit freaked out. I think it'll be fine. The quoting's easier to use than in here, in case people are worried. It's the fear of the unknown, and after a couple of weeks it won't be so scary.

It'll be FINE.

no you dont have to stay locked in time yu can introduce all the other aspect but the forum yu are offering isnt up to scratch as a 'forum' that is my point. i love the blogging and the embedding etc but that's what the site is. stick a proper functioning forum in the forum bit (not what you got now) and it would be great. but dont try to get us to move accross to a forum that is really a facebook with a vip pass.

Dave I think from posts I've seen here is that some FM's have looked at the Support Forums and it doesn't have the same appearance as this one.
Last poster isn't visible so FM's don't know whether they've received a reply or not, also whoever posted last on a thread doesn't push the thread to the top.

I've faith in you all as there's a few weeks to go yet to iron out any gremlins etc. I'm sure it will all be fine Smiler

The thread doesn't go to the top when you post? Thats a bit rubbish then. Very 1990's.

I peronally think the mods have done a great job on here & will continue to do so when the move takes place . Thumbs Up

I have seen the format of the new forum & i'm basing my decision on when the move actually takes place & things have had a chance to settle down . The blogs etc are a personal choice to use or not .

Being harsh I would say that if after trying the new forum ( or not )then there is always a choice to be made as none of us pay to use it or runs it . Saying that I would love it everybody here at least gives it a try & there will always be someone over there to help Smiler

Yes Dave, but you move on to something better not worse. Change for changes sake is just idiotic. I've just been looking around LiveCloud again ' your flagship place' and its a backward step, totally unfriendly to use. I'm sure my words won't make any difference but hey there's always old but successful DS.

Just popping in to say (as I've seen it queried a few times)....

Regarding knowing if a thread has a reply....

If a thread has new content it's title goes to bold text. So you do know if someone has posted after you.
Ok, there is no name of last poster..... but is that all that useful here anyway? Sometimes I may wait for a reply from one poster, but by the time I check three others have posted. So the last poster info is of no use.

I do use it to take me to the end of the thread though..... in that respect it is very useful.
