I always soak my peas for at least 12 hours, quick soak are rubbish.
Just as you are cooking, add some sugar and the teeniest pinch of salt.

Our peas which are the stuff all chip shops sell aren't actually peas - they're not even green - you soak them overnight with a soda tablet - rinse well - cook the following day with water, salt, (a little sugar) and pea green in a pan sitting on a pan of boiling water.
I don't know what is wrong with all you peeps....cooking your peas to mush...
