I agree (that makes no sense)

what I mean is..

we should be able to say what we like BUT we should be prepared to be challenged

me too.

And... I do quite a lot of ignoring it...

During BB I do tons of ignoring it.

In fact...   any hatred that the OP shows towards female celebs is no more than lots of people on here show for BB housemates

The poor sod has just started a thread and gone on record to say he feels no particular hatred for anyone solely based on their gender. Now he'll come back and read that he's either lying about what he said or that he is delusional. I don't know what more he can do really, perhaps a course of therapy to start liking all those female celebs he hates or post some pictures of himself self-flagellating and throwing himself at the mercy of the forum

I knew if I waited long enough someone would come along that was able to say what I was struggling to articulate

I don't think PS is delusional.

I really don't think he realises how it comes across.

I knew I shouldn't have said anything

Hi Eileen

It comes across (to me) that he has zero tolerance for a bunch of people who inhabit the telly and magazines who just happen to be female. I refuse to read anything more in to it than that. While I'm here, I'll go on record to state that as a female I have never found anything that I have read from Poolshark derogatory and sexist, in particular. A little ranty, a little whiny but not an 'ism' like the racism that has been mooted here.

I don't think it is just you, to be fair. And there's no reason for you to be upset, in the grand scheme of things you shouldn't really give a flying one what he thinks. If you like any of the people that he has a grumble about and you feel strongly then have your say and right to reply then.

It's no good working on assumptions and feelings about something more general like 'he hates all women' when he's actually gone out of his way to say that he doesn't. You're just going to have to simply respect his word on that.

I suppose so

Suze, it's not a question of liking the people he grumbles about. I don't know who some of them are and probably wouldn't like them much if I did given that I don't have a lot of tolerance for the 'famous for being famous' types.

He has the right to like or dislike anyone he chooses.

But what I (and obviously Eileen) really object to is the constant over the top slating, with a really nasty undertone, of women. Particularly young attractive women.

The language and tone of his criticism really offends and disturbs me.

And I do feel that some people are missing the point that Eileen and I were making.

I can remember a few posters getting absolutely hammered on here and the other forum for posting comments that were seen (rightly or wrongly) as racist.

I don't recall anyone saying that if you don't agree with the sentiments expressed that you should ignore them or stay out of threads.

I like your posts, I don't find them offensive in the slightest.

I haven't picked up on that language and tone thing Veggie, I'm not saying that it hasn't happened, just saying that in this thread he has stated categorically that he is not a woman hater.

As both a female and a person of colour I try and be as certain as I can about others' implied or explicit words before I make accusations of either sexism or racism.

Seeing as I must have missed instances where you and Eileen (and any others) have been offended I can only take Poolshark's word for it in this thread that he has been misunderstood.

suzybean

That's fair enough Suze, you should speak as you find. I'm not advocating a witch hunt, as I said, I rarely post in his threads but I have posted in this one as he has specifically posted a thread about the issues around his posts rather than a slating of yet another young attractive woman.

Wether or not people think that Eileen and I are reading more into his posts than others see is not the issue to me.

For me, the issue is whether we should ignore prejudice when we see it.

And we can all say that we are not a racist/sexist/homophobe etc - doesn't make it true.

We can only judge people by their posts and I have seen enough of them over the years by Poolshark to give me the impression that he has a real problem with women.

Especially young attractive women.

I know you're not advocating a witch hunt Veggie. I rarely post in his threads too, because I don't really have much to add to the ones I've read. They're usually just him saying he's done some housework, what he's cooked or is going to cook, or that he's pissed.

I just think that he is aware of how that language and tone that you mentioned has been interpreted and is attempting to set the record straight here, now. Fair play to him in this instance, at least.

Suzy I'm with you .........sometimes it's all about the language - or the way of phrasing things. TBH - there are female celebs that I go  about - Jodie Marsh, Kerry Katona, Katie Price etc. etc. - I think PS speaks as he does - in a language that is all around him. I really don't think he's mysoginistic .............he sometimes posts in a way that rubs people up the wrong way - speaks before putting his brain into gear - I've done it myself!

We're not all the same - live and let live - I think it's OK to challenge but ........................let's not make a witch hunt ----------------agree to differ and if necessary simply avoid threads that yo know will wind you up.

It's a big forum - we don't always have to agree ....................and people shouldn't be made to feel bad IMO.

FWIW, I don't see Poolie as a woman hater. He likes a gossip and a rant and he doesn't like a particular type of "celebrity", of the talentless, airhead variety - lots of people would agree with him on that.

Maybe I'm not sensitive or feminist enough, but I don't get offended by his posts. (This is not a dig at those who are offended, as I happen to like those particular FMs very much).
