Liverpool out of Europe!
Mancini has said in a radio interview after the game that Mario will not be included in the squad for the Chelsea game.
Correct decision.
Correct decision.
Shame that. We were going to spray the grass with all sorts of allergy-provoking stuff for a bit of a laugh. I really hope it's a good game, both teams desperate to win I hope we don't cancel each other out with defensive counter-attack nonsense.
I wouldn't say we are desperate for a win... a draw would be a good result considering the sh*te we are in at the moment. It may soon become desperate depending on Spurs results.
You're five points ahead of Spurs but they have a game in hand. Lose to us and Spurs can go ahead of you. I doubt Mancini wants to get in a scrap with Spurs for 4th place. There's still a chance we might f*ck things up for ourselves too but I'd rather have our CL place in our own hands than rely on other results.
Its abit like Arsenal... ensure we don't lose, wouldn't surprise me if we park the bus.
Nice... so not only did he miss a sitter and get sent off, but he also went after some Kiev fans who were giving him the V's.

Seriously, you're better off without him. If you watch that video clip again he got really angry at the shirt he was trying to put on. Loose cannon would be putting it mildly. Total bloody loon is a better description. As stupid as he is talented.

Morning all
CL draw done, Chelsea play Man U and Spurs face Real Madrid.
Squeaky bum time for some then. One advantage of Arsenal going out is that we Gooners can just watch and enjoy the remaining matches without having to do the whole ' what does this mean for us' scenario.
I'd love Shaktar to win though as I would love to see Eduardo doing well

I'm looking forward to another epic encounter with Man Utd. Given the comments made after the recent Premier encounter they (United) need to "put up or shut up".
Hard to get exited about the draw with the big Manchester derby coming up tomorrow. Should be good though as long as that half-wit who reffed last time isn't refereeing again
At least it's not bloody Barcelona again. It should be a great quarter final. Spurs v Madrid too.
disley and boltonfan can you please have a word with your players and tell them we need a favour tomorrow, cheers

2-1 Bolton with Sturridge scoring the winner works for me. Oh, can you do me another favour too please? Win the FA Cup so only fifth place in the PL goes to Europa League so Liverpool are basically f*cked. Thanks again

The FA cup finalists will get EL football next year so as that is certain to be either Bolton or Stoke due to how the draw has them both on the one side. so as it stands only 5th will get EL football. So don't worry Prom you have have your little victory over Liverpool...why you are so bothered about us but I don't know as Liverpool never have nor never will see Chelsea FC as a rival. I am also pretty sure Chelsea's European Cup Honours will be the same when Liverpool eventually get back playing in the Champions league I.e. Zero European Cups.
Form is temporary, class is permanent.
No arguments from me with anyone, I'm enjoying myself too much
(for now at least)

No league title for 20 years is real class At least you've been consistently crap over that period which I suppose is impressive in a way. I'm not 'bothered' by Liverpool at all you aren't even a CL club any more so you're not even a rival I just really hate the sense of entitlement Liverpool fans have just because they were good 20 years ago it's really quite pathetic.
And by the way they've changed the rules. The losing finalist no longer qualifies for the Europa if the winner is in the CL, it goes to sixth place now instead. Man U will definitely be in the CL next year, City might be too so if either of them wins the FA Cup sixth place will go into the Europa.
I watched your game the other night and the commentators and pundits all got it wrong. There is still a strong chance Liverpool will be in the Europa League next season.
Spurs v Real Madrid will be good. Harry will have a go which should make it a decent encounter but I can't see beyond Real Madrid progressing. Tasty potential El Classico semi-final, although Shaktar won't be easy for Barca.
Chelsea v Man United... on ability Chelsea should progress, but you know what Man United are like, the masters of being outplayed but scraping through. I think Man United will go through.

I think Man U having the second leg at home doesn't bode well for us . Oh well, que sera sera and all that nonsense...
I dunno prom, maybe I'm weird but I always think I'd rather have the second leg away, purely because of the away goals thing cos say if you won 1-0 in the home leg, you know going into the away leg that if you get a goal they have to get 3 no matter what. For me it puts the side who is away in the 2nd leg at a huge advantage knowing this, where as the home side would always have this on their minds. Plus if it goes into extra time you get 30 extra minutes to make away goals count.
By the way I hate the away goal rule, always have always will. If the aggregate score is level then the tie should be level, no goal should count more just because of where it's scored.

I agree I hate the away goals rule. They don't count in extra time though as far as I know. Your logic sits well with me except any goal Man U score at ours is an away goal which nullifies any we score at their place. I don't think the players should even be thinking about this crap. Give it all and final total counts.
The only case I think away goals should count double is when you have to play at Anfield and Gerrard is in the team. Guaranteed penalty and 'free' goal when he starts diving for his life in the last 30 mins if they're not winning.

I thought away goals counted in extra time. I'm sure I read somewhere, but maybe I'm thinking of another competition..
You can look at it both ways I suppose, but if you manage to keep a clean sheet in the home leg, , I think it's a massive psychological advantage for the second leg and a psychological disadvantage to the opponents knowing that they can't really afford to concede a goal in the return leg.

Yes, a clean sheet in the home leg is an absolute must. It should be a really open game though (great for the neutral) so anything can happen. I suppose, thinking about it like that, the same applies to playing them away.
Just read the Champions League rules...

Away goals and extra time
8.01 For matches played under the knockout system, if the two teams involved ina tie score the same number of goals over the two legs, the team which scores more away goals qualifies for the next stage. If this procedure does not produce a result, i.e. if both teams score the same number of goals at home and away, two 15-minute periods of extra time are played at the end of the second leg. If, during extra time, both teams score the same number of goals, away goals count double (i.e. the visiting club qualifies). If no goals are scored during extra time, kicks from the penalty mark (Article 17) determinewhich club qualifies for the next stage.
I think that means they count doesn't it?
if it does then I'd defo rather play the 2nd leg away. Imagine being the home team in extra time knowing that 1 goal for them counts double and you only have 20 odd minutes at most to rectify it

Yes mate it sounds like you're right. Absolutely insane though specially if you're playing at SB where half the crowd are corporates and tourists big advantage that eh?
Chelsea will be marginal favourites to get through and it's the only competition that they are still in this season as I think it's too late for them to make a comeback in the league but who knows?, as a United fan I obviously hope we get through as we're not playing our best but getting the job done..
I hope Spurs beat Real Madrid too..
Come on The Hammers!
An hour gone at The Lane and Spurs have not managed to score yet...
FINAL SCORE: Spurs 0 West Ham 0

I am speaking to you through the electronic iPhone. There is a 3G signal for the moment. At the riverside waiting for kick off. Backed Danny Graham to score anytime and Watford to win!! Good luck to everyone else!
(surely Manchester are marginal favourites to go through)
Blimey! We're winning 2-1!
Hard luck Bolton... totally undeserved.
The rags scored a fluke in the 87th min

Upset we lost like that even though I wasn't expecting anything from this match. Hope Stuart Holden's okay
I wasn't expecting anything either. Won 2-1!
Phew got lucky there, credit to Bolton very hard to break down and they are a tough team to beat.
Albion luckily got a draw, Arsenal fans must be peed off at Almunia and dropping points.
Bottom of the league is closer than previous seasons.
