Yup... we had all the big guns out there.

Tevez, Silva, Dzeko and Balotelli...  and still Bobby Manc managed to somehow bore everyone.

Horrible match to watch, not helped by the tossers lighting the flares.

Thought Wilson and Soto did well and Pepe as usual. No one else stand out really. Really lacking creative players tonight, missed Gerrard and Agger. Be good to get Carroll back for this competition. Repka is a complete and utter tosser.

Probably a good result for us considering, hope for a better game at Anfield.

He's been alright, holds the ball well... his home debut was probably his best game. I think he will come well at some point, he's going to need time though.

In one of todays paper...

Jack Wilshere - Englands Xavi...

Setting him up for his fall already... been down this road many times before when it comes to bringing young players through slowly, English media big them up... we play Spain, Brazil, France etc and then when the player has a shocker, the world laughs at us
MrMincePie
i seen some clips on youtube of the match on wednsaday and that sergio busquets is really good. schools ahead of anyone else on the pitch and this is coming from someone who doesnt even know much about football

The English media really know how to go OTT, Wilshere is his own player. I guess Scezseny is as good as Victor Valdes then if they're obsessed with comparing players over here to the Barcelona squad .

Yeah he is in the defensive midfield role. Pedro is another player who has a lot of potential too for them.

Well because one of port vales goals was offside it kind of just about put me on the verge of understanding what offside is, but im not quite there yet.
Other things i learned was that robbie williams supports port vale and has shares and also bradford city have 3 players who only seem to hang around the centre circle for the duration of the game and dont really do anything.

A couple of goals for and a clean sheet against would be greatly appreciated from Chelsea today... followed with a similar result in Copenhagen on Tuesday night.

Am i hoping for too much?

Blimey, that was so exciting listening to it on the radio. Hard luck JJ and cold Sweat - and Prom if he's about. I hate penalty shootouts too.
Well done Barney and Strike - if you still lurk here. Great win for you.

Not happy that Stoke and Brum are leading in their games - I fekkin hate both of the legbreaking barstewards.

I hate penalties, bring back replays, more than 1 I mean,  What's all this penalties after one replay,   When we won back to back FA cups 1981 & 1982, Everton knocked out us the following season, A bit of trivia for you there.

That Szczesny from Arsenal is quite a character on twitter... big ego for a keeper thats not even that good.

"Is it a bird? Is it an plane? No, its just ashley throwing chelsea out of the fa cup"

"Tweeps what do you think Ashley was aiming for when he took his penalty?"
MrMincePie
Afternoon RZB - looks like Everton have form then

Meaty - I've just been on the Arsenal fora and I've seen those tweets - he is gonna get himself in trouble but he is a Gooner through and through.
He and Jack Wilshere are a right double act with the fans - always friendly and approachable.
One of the stats on Online Gooner was that this is the 7th consecutive penalty shootout that Chelsea have lost!! Anyone know if that is right?

I read that on the BEEB Veggie,  Mind you, I don't think we are're  far offf that figure,

They're not good for your heart and blood pressure even if you win. I know we won against Roma on pens (season before last I think it was) and we totally mugged Man U in the 2005 FA Cup final by winning on pens when we had been shite on a stick for the whole game.

That stat must be right then RZB if it's on the Beeb too. It's truly astonishing when you consider what a great keeper Cech has been and Cuddicini (sp) was always a decent keeper too.
Mind you I expect that a lot of the time in knockout comps they were playing Hilario or one of the second string keepers

Frank Arnesen to join Hamburg as sporting director

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/h.../chelsea/9402747.stm

Chelsea sporting director Frank Arnesen is to take up a similar role at Hamburg next season, BBC Sport understands.

The 54-year-old Dane announced last November that he would be resigning from his post and leaving Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

Arnesen, who played for Ajax, Valencia, Anderlecht and PSV Eindhoven, also held a similar director role at Tottenham.

Hamburg chairman Ernst-Otto Rieckhoff is due to give a media conference on Sunday to discuss the appointment.

Hamburg's first choice, Matthias Sammer, the technical director of the German football association, publicly turned down the post.

After former Danish international Arnesen ended his playing career, he became assistant to Bobby Robson at Eindhoven in 1991 and sporting director of the club in 1994, staying for 10 years.

Brazilian striker Ronaldo and Dutch winger Arjen Robben both signed for PSV during Arnesen's spell at the club but in 2004 he joined Spurs before moving to Chelsea a year later.

The Premier League champions have been criticised for spending huge sums on players rather than producing new talent through the club's academy, which Arnesen was also responsible for.

Chelsea won the FA Youth Cup last season, the first time since 1961, and 17-year-old English midfielder Josh McEachran has increasingly been used by first-team boss Carlo Ancelotti.

Captain John Terry is the last significant player to establish himself in the first team.

The only good thing about today's result for me is our only hope of silverware now is the CL. That's unlikely to happen but as long as we finish top four I'm fine with it but the silver lining is all the JCL glory-hunting turds will move on to Man U, Arsenal or City. I am so okay with that
