England vs Australia TONIGHT at 7.45pm on ITV

England will be expected to win this quite comfortably and it should be interesting to see what impact Marcus Rashford has.

These days it's not that easy to win the so called "easy" games though is it El?

That's very true, The last time the two countries met was in 2003 when the result was England 1 - Australia 3 in a friendly.

I suspect the result is less important than seeing how the "possibles" play El. Though obvious England would like to win to keep the momentum going in the right direction

Thanks GJ and Roger.

It was a great experience and despite the result a pretty fun day out.

You were right, Hull had massive gaps in their end. We got and sold more tickets and could have sold more. Some bad planning on the part of the organisers as they could have sold a shed load more.

To be fair I don't  think we looked like scoring and not quite our usual selves. Hull's better squad told out in the end.

I think Brighton would have beaten them though.

I must say that I always think Wembley is an odd place for the national stadium as Brent Cross looks run down and the approach from the north by coach is through small roads and industrial estates.

Looking forward to Middlesborough beating Hull home and away *wink*

Nice report EC. You seem philosophical enough about it   Hope the Sheffield Wednesday owner coughs up the readies for more players! Better luck next year xx

Bad luck, but never mind, you have us to contend with next season

Pudil had a good season with us last year so pleased about that signing. Abdication could give us attacking strength from midfield.

Sheffield Wednesday have signed defender Daniel Pudil and midfielder Almen Abdi from Premier League side Watford.

I think the last article I read about your lot was they had rejected a bid for Tom Lees.

Game of Monopoly, anyone?

I think they should have sold at Β£57m. Sometimes being greedy can backfire.

We have 'Aunty Tu Tu' for Β£12m if you fancy him. ;-)

Is he a proven and prolific goal-scorer?

No and no, but he is fun and has now devised his own celebration and been re-christened 'Dave' as in Big Dave.

Not long now! I must say that the Euros competition was one of the worst I can ever remember and I was so looking forward to it.  You must be excited about the new season EC, I would be. The fixtures have been unkind to us. Burnley away on Boxing Day - no use to me and Hull away is a Tuesday night game. Manchester United away on NYE will be difficult.

I've pencilled in Arsenal, Leicester and then all the other London away games except WHU - I'll be in t'Fatherland for that one. Of course the trouble is one never knows how Europe and Sky will affect games. I noted yesterday that the bookies have us as one of three favourites to go down so it's not all bad news.

Hi GJ,

Yes, I am and also a little nervous for two reasons. The chairman indicated when he took over that 2017 should be promotion year and secondly, the level of competition this year. I would suspect Norwich, Newcastle and Villa to be tough opponents and odds on to be battling for promotion. Not forgetting the quality teams from last year including Derby and Brighton. We also have a larger number of derbies this year with Barnsley coming up!

What a league this is.

Sounds like you have got your away days planned, enjoy (Sky permitting).

Sheffield Wednesday 1 - Aston Villa 0

  • Forestieri (85'minutes)

Thank goodness for the little wizard, a great time to score in a game which was heading for 0-0. I thought we had the better of the first half and they came more into it as the second half progressed.

Good to get an early three points. shame we lost Fletcher early with a 12 stitch head wound. Hopefully he will be right for the next league game.

The crowd was awesome today 30,060 fans (I guessed at 30,000) oooh so close. It was like Wembley over again, great noise. If anyone saw the game on Sky, let me know how it sounded.

Townsend: Hard leaving Newcastle

"I had a very productive time there, unfortunately it was not enough to stay in the Premier League. I had to think long and hard in the summer about what I wanted to do; stay and play in the Championship did not cross my mind, in the end. I had to go with my head and not my heart.

"I did not want to take a drop down, especially while the options were still there in the Premier League."

Norwich City 0 - 0 Sheffield Wednesday

Got to say I'm surprised we got a point at a team which I think will get automatic promotion, especially with the likely loss of Fernando Forestieri who did not travel today. The FF situation is unclear but I would be sad to lose a cracking player and one who can change games.

Will need to watch the tellybox highlights (if there are any going by the BBC write- up)

Four points against to ex-Premiership clubs is no bad going. I'm cautiously optimistic of another good season.

Norwich were fairly cack in the second half.  Sheff W closed down really well and it wasn't helped by the fact that Norwich couldn't string two passes together.

Sheff W were pretty good in possession without really being a great threat.  Norwich weren't a great threat either.  Overall, Sheff W were slightly the better side without really looking like they'd win the match.
