Thought both Young and Cole were just unlucky... all down to luck with penalties, doesn't help with our track record for pens in this country either, we all know the pressure and the sh*t a player gets when he misses a pen though.

As for Rooney, I bet the Toure brothers are pissing themselves laughing at him now... came right back to bite him on the arse.

I don't think England will ever be on the same level as Germany, Spain, Italy etc.

In Spain, they got kids in the Barcelona camps from the ages of 6 coming up to play tippy tappy football like Xavi and Iniesta under a ridiculous amount of coaches... over in the UK, you've got a Dad on the sidelines kicking off with the manager telling him his son is going to be the next George Best and his mother by his side shouting to her son that it's "the taking part that counts"

It's hard to disagree.  'Best league in the world', best set of second tier professional clubs in the world, largest league in the world.  Still mediocre.  Can't see it changing.

God Save the Queen is not only lyrically unsuitable anthem but it's also a boring dirge.

Judging by the Jubilee celebrations she's the queen of tax evaders.

Hi GJ,

I don't share your optimistic outlook!

Unbeaten or not, overall it was still mostly awful.  Not quite the humiliation of quite a few other tournaments and the let down of the so-called golden generation era but still predictably rubbish.

I think we've gone way past the "there's still a way to go, what do we need to do to catch up?"  thinking and resigned ourselves to England's long term second rate status in international football.
