I thought we'd do well to finish 2nd on goal difference, so winning the group by 3 clear points is certainly a nice surprise. I'm not very confident about the Italy game though, unless Balotelli implodes or something.

 

Meanwhile, Matt Mills is supposedly on his way to the Reebok from Leicester. Sven signed him for £5m last summer, but Pearson hates him apparently.

I also think that we might struggle against Italy yet there is a certain inevitability about us playing The Fatherland, or Germoney if you will, at some point.

I don't think it would have made any difference in which countries went through from Group D if the referee had given the goal to Ukraine. The result would then have been a draw. England would still have been top of the table with 5 points. Both France and Ukraine would have 4 points. As France beat Ukraine, France would have remained in second place. So no effect.

 

.......apart from the fact that one of the Ukraine gadjies was offside in the run up to the goal anyway. Step ladder and Platini don't like us to win.

Italy should be a walk in the park... that's if Mario has a "Mario moment".

Various groups including the polis lost the Darlo appeal yesterday. We have been demoted four divisions, we have lost the name, we can't take part in any competitions. We are voting on a new name. 10/11 win/win but they made heavy weather of it. The two newcomers were carp IMO. Meanwhile I wonder if we would be better drawing 2-2 with Italy and going out on penalties? Germoney look unbeatable. The most intriguing game takes place tomorrow though.

Former Northern Ireland and Queens Park Rangers captain Alan McDonald has died suddenly at the age of 48.

McDonald, who managed Glentoran when they won the Irish League championship in 2009, collapsed while playing golf on Saturday morning.
