I always laugh when clubs buy defenders from a club that's just been relegated... I sit there and think "Well, there's a reason they got relegated in the first place.

Scott Dann, last year played for Birmingham who got relegated, this season signed to play for Blackburn at £7mil... who also got relegated. I wonder who's stupid enough to take him this time?

I doubt that it helped the Blackburn defensive situation losing key players during the season:

Christopher Samba

Ryan Nelson

Michel Salgado

Congrats Meaty, I thought you were going to blow it there for a while.

Disley - really hard luck mate.  And to BoltonFan too if she pops in

I can't believe that QPR stayed up. Barton should now receive a lifetime ban from the game - not just playing but from any backroom position too. He is a complete and utter disgrace.

Good luck in the Championship next season, hopefully you will be able to come straight back up

Quite a predictable and forgettable final day to the PL season - all the main protagonists finishing the day in the same position as they had started it!

Well done to Man City on claiming their first PL title - late goals have been vital for them already this season - and that was the case again today.

This is how the Beeb reported it

Joey Barton has lost it here in a major way. After he is shown a red card, Barton knees Sergio Aguero in the back of the leg, that sparks a major melee, he tries to headbutt Vincent Kompany before tangling with Manchester City substitute Mario Balotelli. Madness! At least three red cards for Barton in that lot.

Enough is enough. The football authorities need to react decisively with people like him and Balotelli. Pair of lunatic thugs the both of them

Oh well I'll mebbees see it on MOTD. What a character! It's just like the old days. I'd miss him.

Just been looking on our football forum, and believe me no-one dislikes the ex skunk more than Middlesbrough fans. However there seems to be a feeling that he was deliberately wound up by Tevez........

""Tevez targeted him cos of his temper, he's gone ballistic because of the injustice.
Tevez & Aguero were snide there. Augero was the most vociferous in trying and get him sent off.  So he did him as well!""

My fave comment though but, " He's just elbowed one Argie and deadlegged another and people are complaining??"
Get him in the task force 2012 that we may need soon!"

Barton reckons Tevez struck him in the face first and that he then hit back....it was off camera so can't see how any TV viewers have seen what happened

I was over your way visiting for the first half, but, although channel hopping, the general preference seemed to be for the Utd match....so raced back here to catch the whole of the 2nd half of the City game. I have one v v happy fella, (lifelong City supporter,) at the Ethiad with his son

Straight onto the Barton subject, what an idiot... hell of alot worse than the Zidane incident in my eyes. First he elbows Tevez, then he kicks Aguero in the back of the leg after getting red and then tries to headbutt Kompany Never seen something so ridiculous.

And now... he's just admitted on twitter that he tried to provoke someone and get someone sent off in the process.

"The head was never gone at any stage, once I'd been sent off, one of our players suggested I should try to take 1 of theirs with me..."

As for the game, I went into total meltdown when they scored a second... I'm just gutted I wasn't there, I had a brother and my Dad there. Sadly,  I had to go to work at lunch time to open the place up and rush back home. I thought we were totally out of it. Of course to add to that there was the odd idiot appearing on Sky with his "Champions tattoo" (been there before).

Feel abit bad for Bolton, I was hoping QPR would go down instead... such a detestable bunch of players and staff.

MrMincePie

Now he's claiming Tevez started it by punching him in the head

Edit: I should add, fair do's to United fans... been pretty gracious so far (more than I would've been), especially Darlo, who has had to put up with me clogging up his timeline

Surely nearly as good as the Zidane incident.

Honestly! You lot'd do away with all the entertaining stuff if you had your way.

Just a few minutes prior to the incident Niall Quinn had been praising Barton's performance for QPR!

I'm not disputing that Joe but things have moved on and he shouldn't be allowed (nor should anyone else) to get away with it
