This is not me having a go at you Prometheus but in the above statement, also I am feeling slightly pedantic.

We see a lot of this kind of generalised, unqualified statements in sport. What I would suggest is that the only person who can validate this statement is Beckham himself. I would also suspect that he has not always given everything for his country. There will be occasions when he has come off the field and know he has played below par and could have done more or better.

I would also ask this question. If you are sent off while playing for your country, does that constitute giving everything?

So as I say, just a few thoughts and not a dig at you Prometheus.

P.S.

"I am going out there and giving 110% today"

The moment the game kicks off, that player owes 10%, so is in defecit  !!

EC - re Beckham. I agree with Prom and Joe. Beckham has always seemed to give his all and he has put his global fame to great use for Britain and England by travelling the world and meeting officials and flunkeys from all over to try and get us the Olympics, World Cup etc. He has been a fantastic ambassador for football, sport in general and this country.

Hi, Veggie.  I hope that all is well with you.

Ha ha, which club will be Colin's victims next?  He's never really been a Premiership manager.  I can't believe that QPR can do much worse than Colin.  Hopefully they won't go for Lambert - but luckily QPR do seem to go for mediocrity in their management.  The Ipswich Town job must be up for grabs soon as Paul Jewell can't hang on there for much longer!

I'm not really sure what to say to you if you are genuinely of that opinion. You can't have seen a lot of football matches. I can spot lethargy and half-arsed effort on the pitch within a couple of minutes. I have been watching exactly that most of this season with Chelsea, players simply not putting in any kind of shift and instead just tapping the ball to each other on the halfway line.

Beckham has never played a game like that in his life. He put in maximum effort every time he played, probably because he loves the game which is why he is still playing even now (let's face it he doesn't need the money) and he's saved the day for England more than once. I've got a lot of time for him and always said I would have loved to see him at Chelsea when he was at his peak. A truly great player and I agree with Veggie he's also a great ambassador for English football off the field.

He probably thinks he's too big for the Ipswich job and is expecting to get the call from the FA to step into Fabio's hand-made Italian shoes

Well I'll take that tonight. We weren't great but the game and the performance were a sideshow for the Return of the King - who duly obliged.

Papering over the cracks maybe - but what paper

I thought that Dirty Leeds were far poorer than the team we played last season. They didn't have Griedle (sp) and Snodgrass and missed them badly. No creativity at all - not that we were much better at times

I listened to most of the game on 5Live and i'm certain Leeds would have been delighted to take the tie back to Elland Road for a replay.

Cold Sweat

I have no idea what a sending off is anymore... I think we can be certain that either Mason or Foy got it wrong.

Slightly concerned that Mancini is turning into Wenger... I have been saying on my twitter timeline for months that Kolarov one of the worst players in the league, I would even play Bridge ahead of him, yet Mancini insists on playing him

I watch quite a lot of Football League stuff and I remember saying last season that if Swansea come up they'll rip quite a few top PL sides a new arsehole, especially at home. Great to watch. It just shows that you don't need to spend millions on world class players to have a good footballing side that can pass and move.

Pleased for Danny Graham, he was great when he played for us.
