The Beeb reckon the Wolves sending off was harsh - and it did allow Arsenal 20 minutes of almost unchallenged possession - you should have found a winner!

I listened to the closing stages on 5 Live and the impression i got was that Arsenal failed to find the sort of cuteness or invention that was a trademark of the Invincibles. Remember them? Lol

Cold Sweat

Yeah I remember the Invincibles CS. And the Double Winning team of 71. and the League winning Graham team of 89.

And the stories I heard from the old heads around me on the terraces of the Chapman winning years.

Do you remember your team before Abramovich came in with all his money? Because if you do, then you must be one of a handful of Chelsea 'fans' who supported them when they were shit

Fed up of moaning about refs, decisions not going our way etc. We should have been out of sight without expecting the ref to do his job properly.

Sadly we're both disappointed.  Spurs were in a totally different class and if it wasn't for their poor finishing it could have been four or five nil.  TBH, I didn't realise Spurs were that good.  They dominated the match almost from start to finish with Norwich just chasing the ball almost all match. Norwich didn't deserve to get anything from that game.

IIRC, Chelsea averaged around 13,000 gates one season when they were a mid table Division 2 side during the mid 80s.

Good times though (on a personal level) - regardless of whether we were shit or otherwise/poorly supported or otherwise.

Several of the grounds i visited in those days no longer exist - and the high times under Bobby Campbell winning the Zenith Data Systems cup and Division 2 title, were; in their own way; very special!

sometimes we were lucky to get that!

ahhhhhhh the happy days of sitting on stone cold concrete benches..we weren't allowed cushions after it kicked off at home during the milk cup semi final v sunderland..trying to peer over the enormous electric fences......the pitch a million miles away from the stands and terraces....the delights of keith dublin, robert isaac etc...

god it seems a million years ago now.

probably not cs!!..i remember in the winter taking two coats..one to wear and one to sit on cos those blocks froze yer arse off!

think that was the only season they did the play off with the 1st and second division when we went down.

remember the cup game v sheffield weds away?..3-0 down at half time then canners came on and turned the game around?...4-3 then big doug rougvie gave away a penalty so it ended 4-4!

there were some proper mental games in the 80's!

remember the cross channel cup?...think that was a batesy invention...us and le havre were the only teams in it...and we won!...glory days!...

Simod / Zenith Data / Full Members...

I think Bates revived the Anglo-Italian cup under some murky tie in with the Full Members cup to get Second Division teams into Europe.

Recall attending what seemed like the biggest game at the bridge in years - League Cup semi - also versus Shef Wed - and getting stuffed! Then destroyed in the away leg also!

I enjoyed the League One season a few seasons ago, probably because we won it by a mile and Leeds hated us because they only just scraped promotion in a season when they started off as if they were waiting champions.

Hi Joe, nice to see your lot doing well.

Hi disley, what's your honest opinion of Cahill? Nobody was talking about him till he was linked with Chelsea. A couple of appearances for England doesn't count for much these days.

Nice to see Andy Carroll shoving defenders out of his way all through the game tonight and not getting penalised. I have never seen him play a single game where he isn't just pushing and shoving defenders every time he gets near them. Almost throws them to the ground. Numpty ref says no foul every single time. And there was me thinking football was played with feet not hands.

Chelsea: title race over we can now concentrate on 4th. Or 5th. Maybe 6th. I have emailed our manager and explained to him the reason he never sees anything that goes on in our games is because he spends the whole game crouched down on the sidelines like a bloody moron. I pointed out the ball isn't always played along the ground I hope that helps him I like to do my bit for my club.

Well I'll take a old time 1-0 to The Arsenal!! I had tickets for todays game but let my mate take mine and she went with her son (who I normally take) as I have a stinking chesty cold which wouldn't have been helped by being outside for a couple of hours

And Brentford managed a 3-3 at home against MK Dons.

so apart from the evil lurghi I am well happy - hope everyone else is too.

Happy New Year Footie peeps, hope 2012 is good for you all xxx

Maybe lower!

Chelsea 1 Aston Villa 3

You would think at home - and a goal up, that Chelsea should be capable of pushing home that advantage - but NO; they collapse! Too slow in defence and not inventive enough in attack.

Happy New Year to all on the Footie thread!

Don't think Prom is gonna be too chuffed

I was watching United vs Blackburn today... I thought United were just gonna go on and snatch the later winner, instead, Blackburn go and snatch it He went and fielded a considerably weaker side and De Gea had a shocker. Were Rooney and Hernandez injured?

I would be fuming if Mancini pulled that sort of sh*t. Don't hold out much hope for tomorrows game, not an easy place to go Sunderland and we have a habit of not taking our chances when presented on a plate.
