Under rated by most non Liverpool fans, but over rated by a lot of Liverpool fans. Some scousers I know talk about him like he's Zinedine Zidane.

He is still treated with contempt by a lot of Liverpool fans who still don;t see him as a good player, but its no coincident that when Lucas is playing well Liverpool is too. Him and Agger have a great connection on the pitch.

I think most of the hardcore Liverpool support do rate him from what I've seen/heard/read. There'll always be a few who can't see the value he brings to the team simply because he isn't called Steven Gerrard and will never get 15+ goals a season.

Most who don't rate him don't really look at a football team as a whole, Lucas is a defensive/holding midfielder he isn't really expected to score goals, most are comparing him too much to Alonso who was a free kick taker and Penalty taker and they seem to want Lucas to emulate him. However Lucas breakss up play, he is a fantastic tackler in fact I saw on a statistics table that he was the top tackler in the premiership this Season. He does all the unseen work which doesn't get put into the end of match statistics such as goals or assists, his confidence has soared recently with Brazil and it has showed in his Liverpool performances.  I'm happy enough that it is just Liverpool who rate him because when a player becomes noticed he gets singled out and put on a pedestal a la Rooney, Bale even Carroll.

Really missed the Premiership games. How did all your teams players play over the weekend? Off the top of my head Dirk got 3 and Carroll got one. Not too bad! Dirks in great form at the minute and I hope Carroll back from injury now will hit the ground running.

Exactly, but even Alonso although rated quite highly, often wasn't given the credit he deserved. It was always '2 man team' Liverpool Torres and Gerrard, if either of them don't play they've no chance. They soon realised the value of Alonso once he'd gone! As important if not more important than both of those 2 to the success of Liverpool finishing 2nd. In my opinion of course.

It's like the idiot England fans and even BBC pundits who used to criticise Sven for having Hargreaves in the squad. Linekar even opened up BBC's WC2006 coverage with a german line followed by 'Thanks to Owen Hargreaves for the translation - at least he's useful for something!'. Total numbskulls like!ο»Ώ He soon proved them wrong in that tournament though!

I bet he won;t get game time for England, Rooney and Bent and Defoe will all be in before him. I don't know why they persist with Rooney he couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo in the Internationals stage.

Liverpool fans worshipped the ground Alonso walked on, he scored the equaliser in 2005 ffs!! Rafa, as much as I still like the guy made a major mistake in trying to whore Alonso about. I would goes had Rafa not tried to purchase Gareth ****ing Barry Alonso might still be at Anfield today.  I still think Alonso will come back to Liverpool in some capacity in the next few years, he still speaks highly of Liverpool on Twitter, welcomed Kenny to the Managerial Post etc.

Crunchy: totally agree, Hargreaves is exactly what England need if he ever resurfaces.

RR: Rooney is an amazing player, only a defensively minded thick Italian plonker would put him out on the left thus nullifying his immense attacking threat. No way will Bent start over Carroll, Defoe might, depending whether we need strength (Carroll) or skill (Defoe).

Yup, Liverpool fans did, but the media and so called 'experts' were always spouting the 2 man team nonsense about Gerrard and Torres, while pretty much ignoring Alonso and even Mascherano.

Yep, horses for courses is the best approach. I feel sorry for Carroll much like Torres both have massive price-tags on their heads.Andy is still young and brimming with confidence but and it all seems to be water off a ducks back for him. But Prom, what do you make of Torres? I actually feel really sorry for him, he's not being played as the main danger man any more, Torres isn't used to being in a paired up strike force and everything he does looks laboured. I really think it is all psychological, he needs a long break to clear his head and he doesn't look like getting it anytime soon with Euro qualifiers and apparently Chelsea Liverpool and Arsenal are going on a ten day tour to the middle east, I doubt he can drop out of that as he will be Chelsea star attraction and main way of attracting new fans.

You are right, pundits rarely recognise the players who do all the graft. Agger, Lucas and Meireles have been our core for the majority of this season and when these 3 are playing together out win percentage is higher, but very 'pundits' and 'experts' would recognise these as key Liverpool players, which like I say is probably a blessing in disguise.

Alex Ferguson was the one who stuck him out on the left for United because he was playing so sh*te... then everyone started claiming Rooney was best playing at CAM and that he was the playmaker. It was all nonsense and he doesn't look anything like the player from last year and before. I think its a confidence issue, it all started around the time of the WC with all thats going with his personal life.

Theres been glimpses of what he's capable of doing, but he's still got a long way to go before he's back to his best... the good thing for him is that he is still quite young and it can quickly change.
