Why though? Because he is at a different club? If Stephen Ireland joined manure i really wouldnt be that bothered. LFC fans shouldnt really care, he is no threat and is past his time. You probably have the best forward in the league anyway (Torres) Nod

Because we made Owen who he is and once a liverpool player, you should remain loyal to the club and not join any of our rivals.

To put it nicely though, Owen is a class A ****

That's spurious bolleaux and you know it is. Laugh Since when has loyalty come into football?

Traitor? Don't be stupid. He's a professional footballer wanting to go to a club where he has a good chance of playing in a good team where he'll get a lot of chances to score goals and win things and ultimately force his way back into the England team.

Did Liverpool make an offer? As far as I know they didnt and even if they did, would he really get in ahead of the current front 2 of Gerrard and Torres? I don't think so, just ask Robbie Keane.

So do all the dumbarse Liverpool fans expect Michael Owen to turn down Manchester United and take one of his other offers of say Stoke City or Hull City just to 'show loyalty to his former club'? Don't be so fecking ridiculous.

I cannot believe the f**kwittery of some of the scousers I've heard on sky sports news and the radio tonight. It beggers belief.

There is no loyality in football anymore, you don't get many players that spend most of their career at one football team, as soon as they get a better offer, they are off like players from my team.

I must admit I was surprised that SAF has taken a chance on Owen with his well documented injury problems over the las few years, but if they can sort out the injuries, he is still a world class forward. Just wonder where Rooney will fit in with him though as he has stated that he was to take a more central role up front.

It will be interesting to see next season how he plays both players.

Can I ask what team you support?

Tell you what... I'm as loyal a supporter of my team (Carlisle United) as anyone, but if I was a footballer and I played for them, I'd have no hesitation in leaving if a better team came in for me that had more chance of winning things and were going pay me more money. And this is just a personal thing, but I would celebrate if I scored against the team I support or my former team. I can understand why players decline to celebrate, but I would celebrate. Why deny that you're happy about scoring a goal?

As for Owen and Man Utd, well I go to see them quite often because my Dad is a diehard mad United fan and to be honest they are my premiership team, Beckham was my hero as a boy. All I'll say is that if Owen stays fit, he will score a shed load of goals. He'll have a field day. Since Ruud left, I think United have been lacking a real goal poacher and have been fortunate that Ronaldo has been banging them in, but with the service he'll get, Owen will score loads. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he ends up winning the golden boot next season. I think it's a great signing.

Yep hadn't thought of Owen like that but he is a real goal poacher.

The Liverpool fans that go on radio and stuff like that are mostly idiots, I have to say most Liverpool fans I have met have been ok tba.

The ones that turn up on TALKsport are usually the worst I find, they never want to listen to anyone elses point of view.

Oh FFS... City are now making a third bid for John terryBig Grin Our second bid was 30mil but rejected, should we just throw in 80mil? Laugh Im not sure we are getting the full story here... No way would MH make a bid for a player who is practically glued to a club for a third time Shake Head There must be something behind this, and the agents wouldnt even allow the bids to be made or to discuss it Roll Eyes

have you still got Mad dog managing you? We had him at Brentford (my second club) a few years back.
We did ok under him, but he really gets on the players backs non stop.
Your second club is going to have a bad start to the new season I'm afraid.

Michael Shields has been refused a pardon again from Jack Straw. His only crime was to be an English football fan abroad. It could have been any one of us. Go on, do something good today...give blood. No, write to your MP. Let's get this poor sod some justice.

As demonstrated by General Pinochet, it really is about position and cash. I would mention MJ too but Straw hasn't pardoned him.

Hi Shirehorse was wondering if you were here,i have been on my soapbox about this for a while now,we both kept bumping the thread on the old forum,i have signed online petitions etc,but was very angry last week as i feel this story got lost in the madness of all the other news stories,Ronnie Biggs,Michael Jacson etc,i have already been letter writing.
I was sure Jack Straw was going to release him,but for anyone not familiar with the story of Michael Shields please Google it and put yourself in his place, and imagine how his family are feeling, and show some support,

Thumbs Up wavey
