Pearce was also keen to pay tribute to all his players, most notably Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba.

He said: "Fabrice Muamba, I think was absolutely unbelievable tonight. I thought his performance was as good a performance in an England shirt in a holding role that I've ever seen."

Cool

I've said for a long time Muamba would be great in that role, yet our glorious leader tries to use him as a box-to-box player. Roll Eyes

Yeah Darlo, I was talking about him with some of my DILs Dutch relatives who are Ajax fans at the wedding, they were saying that he is a good captain, quite a leader so that will be good.
Interesting that AW picks out that he can play at left back, we have two great left backs in Clichy and Gibbs so I hope that doesn't mean one of them is off.
Official Arsenal Statement

disley - clearly it's being driven by Mark Hughes. It might not be as much of a gamble as you think, Hughes knows how to get the best out of him and I'm not convinced that all his recent injuries were that genuine.

If I'm right in thinking you're saying he may not really have been injured lately, then I'll agree that's a possibility. It may just have been a cover for him wanting out.

However, I'm basing it all on his record at Bayern. Sure, he wasn't first choice there, but part of that was because whenever he threatened to break into the team, he'd suffer an injury.

One season he only played in four games after all, and he averaged less than four goals a season while he was there.

Now don't get me wrong, I think he's a good player, I'm just saying I'd want to be slightly more certain of a players fitness when you're talking about the amount of money that's being quoted. Imagine if they didn't have countless millions to spend and he was their one and only signing, only to then get injured, they'd be screwed!

yeah that was what I was saying disley, I think he wanted out.
He does seem to be one of those players who want to be loved and feted, time will tell I guess.
I didn't know about his record at Bayern, you sure know your stuff Thumbs Up I get what you're saying though about spending money on a player that may spend a lot of time on the treatment table - Gawd knows Arsenal have really suffered from having key players injured for long spells last season amd we can't afford to spend big to bring players in just as cover.
City can of course so maybe they don't care. Interesting though that they didn't get Kaka and other big signings yet this window, looks like all their money isn't the temptation they thought it was.

Right guys, I'm off (doctors appointment) catch up with all later wavey

But best of luck to him whatever team he goes to whether it is City or Chelsea, he's a quality player. Thats 2 replacements we need now.

is that official darlo about tevez????

if so.....utd have really shot themselves in the foot about it......if it's true they knew ronaldo was leaving before it was announced...you'd of thought they would of accomadated tevez more into the team.....i can't say i blame him for not wanting to sign....
SS
At least Tevez is replacable. That boy Ronaldo is NOT replaceable and I'm sick of hearing deluded United fans on the radio saying he is.

Yeah Fergie replaced Beckham with Ronaldo, but it took him 3-4 years to get to his best and during that period United won no league titles and did nothing in the Champions League. That can't happen again but I fear it will, because Ronaldo was that important a player to Manchester United.

I also find it laughable when I hear some United fans saying they'd miss Rooney more than Ronaldo if he'd went. What planet have they been living on?

I wouldn't worry too much about Tevez Darlo, great player, but he is replaceable. They could sign Aguero or someone like that.

But how the hell are we going to replace everything that Ronny gives to a team including his 30-40 goals a season, his aerial threat, his free kicks, his blistering pace, his skill...?
Crunchy Nuts
Maybe you prefer him to Ronaldo fair enough, but surely you can see the Ronaldo is a bigger asset to a team than Rooney in terms of what he gives?

Do you remember Diego Forlan playing for Man U? He was a bit of a flop but he wasn't given a fair chance I don't think. I reckon he'd be a perfect replacement now, he's a similar type of player. When I used to get taken to Old Trafford a lot wiht my dad up until the age of about 16, I met Diego Forlan and he was one of the nicest blokes I've ever met.

Blimey Crunchy, you and my son are channelling eachother, he's just said the same thing.
Except he added that he would have got rid of Berba to keep Tevez.

Darlo - thanks for the link mate

Ronaldo was our best player without a doubt Nod, he was just too selfish and went for all the glory. Rooney is more of a team player and the look on his face when Ronaldo used to try to do it all on his own and not to pass to anybody else was telling.

Rooney will benefit from him going, he's just such a class player he really is improving his game Smiler.
darloboy (Play The Game!)
Yeah i would have got rid of Berbatov before Tevez as well.

I see Valencia have said that Villa is not for sale. I think that's just to crank the bids up a bit to be honest.
As the only english side he'll play for is Liverpool, I hope he goes to Barcelona.
Maybe then United could sign Eto'o. Now that WOULD be a replacement for Tevez!!!
Crunchy Nuts
Agree about Rooney improving all the time and yeah maybe and hopefully he might benefit from Ronaldo leaving. But I can't accept that Ronaldo was selfish on the pitch. His first few years yeah he tried to do too much all the time and always ended up losing possession, but once he added the team player part into his game, he became a fantastic player and used the ball superbly and passed when he needed to and did it himself when he needed to.
Crunchy Nuts
No way would Leo Messi leave Barca for England Big Grin, i'm glad because they are the perfect team for him in every single way.

We will cope without Ronaldo, maybe we won't be as much at the top of our game, there has to be confidence in the other players this might be more inspiring for them as now they will be able to create pieces of magic. One person going isn't going to be the end of team spirit it might make it stronger.
darloboy (Play The Game!)
United imo have the weakest midfield of the 'big four' and tthat was exposed big time in the CL final. But the past 4 or 5 years they've had the best attack with the likes of Rooney, Ronaldo, Saha(when he was good), Van Nistelrooy and Tevez recently and because of this have blown teams away. But now with just Rooney and Berbatov I think they've weakened significantly and obviously with Ronaldo being irreplacable, I think Ferguson needs to sign 1 quality attacker to replace Tevez and go somewhere to replacing Ronny, and then a real top midfielder to play in there with Fletcher and Carrick or Hargreaves if he returns fully. David Silva would be perfect i think.
Crunchy Nuts
The important thing to note here is that it isn't a case of United deciding not to sign Tevez.

They agreed a ÂĢ25m fee, and offered him a five year deal, and Tevez turned it down.

That doesn't happen very often, and I think Red Nose is seeing a bit of karma coming his way for insisting on starting that lazy stump Berbatov over Tevez so often.

Citeh are the bookies favourites to sign Tevez by quite a distance, which I imagine would be a bit of a kick in the teeth for United fans.

Tevez can be replaced though and Aguero is a great shout as a potential replacement there.

The trouble is still Ronaldo, as Valencia is never going to be as good as he is. They'd need to sign an out and out goalscorer as well as Valencia in order to replace him...
