Can Arsenal afford to turn that sort of money down?

Well we don't need money, the club is in an excellent financial position but I would absolutely distraught if RVP left.
I think it will depend on what AW wants to do and who he wants to bring in. He made it clear after the Stoke game that his first priority this summer would be to get RVP to sign a new extension to his contract so I can't see us letting him go easily.
Adebayor would be a different matter I feel.
We are supposedly paying 10 million for an Ajaz centre back so that will leave 5 million in the transfer kitty without any money coming in for players we sell.
Time will tell I guess.

Looks like Carvalho (sp) may be off from you guys

I think it is possible that Chelsea have already had the best from Ricardo Carvalho, and parting with him now might be a good thing.

Plenty of rumours (as usual) regarding Chelsea being linked with big names, but i do think they might actually spend some money this summer.

David Villa would be a fantastic signing! Cool

exactly why i said to you the other day darlo not to believe it when you were saying about ashley young.....

big money calls and they're off....players don't have loyalty like us fans do.....fair enough they move to advance their careers etc.....but i never ever believe the 'i'm so happy at (insert club name)..i want to stay here blah blah blah' bollocks....

the only reason they say it is to appease the fans...if ashley young doesn't move...well he's said the right things and the fans will love him still.....if he decides to go.....he won't think twice....

that's the way it works ....

I believe for at least at the moment, he will stay put Nod but who knows in the future. Carew to City?, he seems to have rubbished that for the moment.

he may well do.....but if he puts in another good season.....keeps getting international recognition....he'll go.....i'd put my house on it.....

i honestly don't know why these players bother with all this 'my heart is here' stuff.....we all know if a better offer comes calling they'll go....which is fair enough...but they kiss the badge of their shirt.....two months later they're doing it to another teams badge....

58million is a lot of money as well.

By all accounts he signed for Madrid to help Milan out. Confused

i heard that.....and the doubter in me thought........nothing to do with the mega wages he's getting then???..... Big Grin

to be fair.....some players are sold when they don't want to go.....but if it was purely financial.....and he wanted to help milan out...he should've signed for city and they'd of got double the price madrid are giving them...

I know they have a massive fan base,
and are one of the biggest clubs in the world, but the money is just not in sport at the
moment, I think they have fallen so far behind Barca, almost overnight, they've got to do something big.

for now darlo.....

a few seasons ago madrid were THE team in spain.....and barca were lagging behind.....if their intention is to buy players of the calibre of kaka..and i have no doubt it'll not stop with him.....then who knows what'll happen??...

barca were the team last season......when it starts again....it's all on equal footing and all to play for...
