Wenger-Madrid

thanks for that darlo Thumbs Up

Morning everyone Hug

With regard to Joey Barton, I think he's scum personally. We gave him a lovely reception when he came on at the Emirates
Welcome back Joey

Morning Joe, I do agree to a point about the debt question but I agree with Wenger when he has been asked about this (surprise, surprise) Big Grin

as he says, there is a big difference between debt and deficit (sp) Arsenal have a debt which was incurred by building the Emirates and upgrading the training complex at London Colney. We manage that debt and the repayments out of our normal operational profits and it will be repayed. Incurring debt for major capital projects is normal in any business.
We trade at a profit every season, we don't have to borrow for players wages, transfer fees or any other aspect so therefore don't operate at deficit.

It's the same principle as a person borrowing from a bank to buy a house (which is fine if you can manage the repayments) and borrowing from a credit card for your monthly outgoings - which is a recipe for disaster.

The banks will mostly keep faith with the big clubs as they know they will eventually get the money back - and make a big profit on top.

I never include Arsenal in this debt argument. They seem a well run enterprise. I have already backed them each way for next years title.
Are you sure that the banks will get their (our)money back.

Found something else which you might like Big Grin.

Pogatetz

I'm always in favour of keeping good local lads. Alas I don't think that Downing gives a 100%
Mad Dog should relish the more robust style in the Championship. I fully expect him to miss half the games through suspension.

After their bits of success earlier Leverkusen have turned out to be pretty average. Don't like 'em even if they did invent Aspirin.

Managed to catch some European football on Eurosport it's ok, he played well for Graz in Austria thats how he came into attention at the first place, since Leverkusen just loaned him out. Don't mind Leverkusen, Stuttgart are a decent team, not keen on Werder Bremen for some reason though Laugh.

How are you GJ Smiler?.

Haha Hug Good for you hun, I never ever back my own teams as I feel that I'm putting the kiss of death on them by doing so.
Yes Arsenal are (or have always been) a well run club. AW comments quite often at press conferences and interviews about how he has a responsibility to the club and the supporters to ensure that the finances are healthy. What will happen now though with all the boardroom changes is anybodies guess.
A lot of us are not happy with the two new powers emerging at boardroom level and will be watching them closely.
As for the banks, well those bar stewards always get what they want in the end.
Personally with the banks as with football, for once as a person with strong anarchist leanings I firmly believe that really strict and restrictive legislation is the way to go to stop the kind of things we've seen happening with the banks and with teams like Newcastle
FM
Hi Veggie darling Wave Hug, think it's great Arsenal are clear of debt the fans obviously want some big name signings to recapture the glory of the Viera days etc and win trophies again, but seems like the directors are thinking of the long term. Wenger must be given some decent cash though to get more experience in. Think you'll be sorted out for next season and will be in the running again Smiler.

Hey Darlo Hug

Sorry I'm nipping all over the place this morning between here and the FM BB house we're doing in Walk the Dog - I didn't have the courage to go into it though - I might get corrupted Angel Big Grin

I don't think it's that any Gooners want big name signings at all, it's more that we want a couple of experienced players who can leave a foot in if they need to Red Face
I've no doubt he knows exactly what he needs at the moment - if we can hold on to our good players until our babies come through then we will be awesome.
Our babies defend really well as a unit and I can see most of them stepping up if they continue to improve.
FM
It's ok hun Smiler, bit more experience will benefit the team more and maybe give the youngsters more confidence in their games. Wenger knows what he is doing, good he's staying despite Madrids meddling as usual. That Kieran Gibbs has been impressive despite his little wobble at Liverpool. Jack Wilshere looks to be a promising player too so it's all positive at the moment.

Sorry Darlo! I'm in and out today.
I'm well thankyou as I hope you are.
I tend to dislike the teams from the south of Germany. Full stop.
Bremen, who I suppose are my local team, as the crow flies I follow because I know someone who plays for them. His family anyway.

It's ok GJ Thumbs Up, i'm good thanks Smiler. Like Schalke too, not keen on Hoffenheim. You mean Per Mertesacker yeah he's a impressive player, seen some German footie and he has a impressive rating on the Fifa football game too Laugh.

Mad Mad
We don't care, we still love him and he has stepped up so well since I watched him play for the babies at Underhill at the start of the season.

I think Arsenel's main problem last season was they let Hleb go to Barcelona, then Rosicky got injured, leaving them with hardly any real natural attacking midfielders. Don't think they replaced Flamini either. But now they have Arshavin and Nasri settling in, Rosicky coming back along with Cesc obviously, I think they have one of the best attacking midfields in the premiership. Think Wenger needs to sign a Flamini type player this summer though.

Manchester United have the weakest midfield of the big four imo and Ferguson needs to address that. The defence and attack are fine I think. But Chelsea's power of Ballack, Essien and Mikel in the middle as well as the goal threat of Lampard puts them ahead in that department. Same goes for Liverpool, I think Mascherano and Alonso are better than United's midfielders and obviously theyve got Gerrard who can play there if they want.
I think midfield is where Barcelona really outclassed Man Utd last week. I think the other 3 english clubs in the competition would have been better equipped to compete in that area.

Hope Ferguson sees this and signs a real top midfielder this summer.

Gary Madine.

Unfortunately it's looking likely that it'll be Cleveland Taylor we'll be losing as well as Danny Graham. Disappointed
Hopefully we'll keep Michael Bridges though Thumbs Up

To put him out of his misery Cristiano Ronaldo Eeker Big Grin. Messed us around too much now and he'll go at some point, thinks he's bigger than the club finally had enough and he'd leave us one day anyway. Just would rather prefer United sell him then get a replacement in who wants to play for us. Can't be doing with a will he/won't he every year. We would cope without him anyway.

As long as Fergie doesn't think Nani is an adequate replacement and gives him his chance this season Eeker

Who would Ferguson go for as a replacement though? Messi wouldn't leave Barca, Ribery looks Madrid bound, as does Kaka...

Unless Ferguson has another Ronaldo like gem up his sleeve to pluck from somewhere.

Ribery and Kaka rumours for the moment, i'm sure he'd come up with something. He's saying he wants to stay but all these rumours are still around. I don't believe a word he says now he's untrusting and unloyal Roll Eyes, but still a talented player. Only out for himself Nod.

Gallas, can't stand him.
I honestly think that he has been responsible for some players leaving and has caused unrest with others. I feel that he disrespects my club and the shirt and for those reasons alone I would kick his backside to the kerb.

Added to which he's spent a lot of time this season supposedly injured and when he does play he doesn't seem to play particularly well or want to play from what I see.

Oh and Adebayor can stop blaming the fans for the fact he can't hit a barn door at times and sort himself out or he can get his gear and sling his hook as well

And breathe Big Grin

Bendtner is a difficult one for me. He's another one that can't seem to hit a barn door at times. Poor as our defense has been at times this season I actually think a lot of the responsibility for our results rests with the bad shooting in front of goal.
We've hit the woodwork about 23 times in the PL this season - about twice as much as the next nearest team stat wise.
I like Bendtner when he's out on the wing putting good crosses in and he can show lovely skill too, but when he's leading the line then he can be pants.
I'd give him another season to see how he goes personally - and give him a clip around the earhole and tell him to do his talking on the pitch in whatever coloured boots he wants rather than mouthing off to the media
