i think all this talk of how they were 'the best' and 'unstoppable' was brought crashing back to earth tonight.....

when all is said and done......they were outplayed by a barca team ravaged by suspension/injury.....

a part of me thinks utd felt it was already in the bag.....that wasn't the case......

Nod, I can only speak for myself I thought that we was beatable and it was the Press that was getting carried away with all that. Theres been times where we haven't been as good as we should be so there was weaknesses there no-ones going to be 100% perfect though...

i think there's been numerous times this season you've been lucky darlo.......well perhaps lucky isn't the right word........but as you say.....there have been poor performances...

for example the league.....had liverpool or chelsea....more so liverpool as they were closest in the end....been able to capitalise when you dropped points the league would have been theirs.....but they didn't and the tide turned in your favour....

i think there's a few times where lady luck has smiled on you.....and luck will run out eventually...

as well as the tevez and ronaldo will they stay saga.....there is also the fact that scholes, giggs, neville are too old now to play a major part......van der sar as well is 38 and maybe next season will be his last

for all this talk of 'utd are a young team'....i don't agree with.......yes there are a few younger players.....but i think they said the average age last night was 27/28.....it's not like the team of the 90's with beckham, giggs, scholes, butt etc.....

macheda is no where near the finished article....gibson looks good.....and in time the twins at right and left back may come good as well.....but they may well suffer if they were playing week in week out.....rather than the occasional game where they play against lower opposition

hence the fact that like all teams.....fergie will buy for next season.....cos these players aren't at the standard to fill in the vacancies left by others either leaving or not playing so much

I think we'll improve, of course we will need to buy other players. Yes we've been lucky at times but like say if Chelsea was in that situation Spongey i'm sure you wouldn't complain then and would be grateful for the points. We've always been good at trying to grind out results when we're not playing well, but not yesterday no excuses for that bad performance and we deserved to lose. We ain't just going to sit back on this season, obviously the players would want to get better.
darloboy (Play The Game!)
of course no one is going to complain darlo.points are points....i'm not quite sure why you had to put...'if it was chelsea i'm sure you wouldn't complain then'.......i'm not complaining.....

merely pointing out that you've ridden your luck a few times.....and that luck invariably runs out at some stage.....

it seems like its getting to the stage where no one can level criticism or point out a flaw in utd without you getting the hump and jumping to the wrong conclusion....

football is a sport to debate.....all teams..all players......
SS
No of course you can criticise it is good i'm just saying that yes we've not played good at times and got results, but if it was their team in that position them i'm not sure they would complain then. I'm not getting the hump I feel quite happy today Smiler. I like it when United is critcised secretly it inspires those players to prove people wrong.
darloboy (Play The Game!)
And they still got a dodgy penalty against Spurs!

Seriously though, disappointment comes with the territory..and for most of us theres mainly disappointment week on week.United have had a great season, and as spongy said have rode their luck on numerous occassions.Last night they looked like a conference outfit being totally outplayed in the FA cup by a premiership side.It was hard to see how such an outfit had dominated British football but thats the game.
They didnt lose because of dodgy refereeing. They were outplayed on the night.Simples.

And no disrespect to darlo or any other United fan btw.

as i said.....i wasn't complaining.....we've gotten goals at the end of matches(like v stoke this year)..won games we didn't deserve to win....

but as a whole i think utd rode their luck in the premiership this season.....liverpools and chelsea's failure to capitalise when you didn't win played a part...

lady luck does run out eventually....that's the point i was making......

Dont be daft.Your obvious enthusiasm for the game's great.Like any other love affair footie means bad times and good Smiler

why???.......we're just debating football.....it's a game of opinions....but you do have to accept darlo that whilst you're utd daft..not everyone is.....and that people will level criticism at them.....

i love my club.yet am perfectly happy to see and debate there are things wrong at the bridge and with the players.....

it's pointless having a blinkered view imo.....

i agree.......

they just didn't play at all.....and tactically fergie got it wrong imo.....

it was a one sided final except for the first 8 minutes......barca looked like they didn't get out of second gear.....but they didn't have too

i actually thought playing park was a disaster.....if it was a sentimental decision....it was the wrong one....if it was tactical....it was the wrong one....he was way out of his depth....
