Day Jar View - I'm sure I contributed some photos to a similar thread??
*Scurries off*
I don't eat food that's past it's date, it gets chucked. I usually choose from the back of the shelf where the date can be longer than those at the front
I've heard it said that either the use by or sell by date - can't remember which now - can be safe for a few days after but I don't like to take the risk lol

Be careful though YR, mahy shops' staff do not adhere to proper rotation, so in some places you will find the newer stuff at the front and older/out of date stuff at the back.

I didn't know they did that Fluffs but the first thing I look for is the date. Sometimes I buy for what I know we'll eat that night but sometimes I choose things I want to stock up on for a few days, so look for the longest date in the hope it won't get wasted.

It is safe to eat stuff beyond the 'Best before' date. 'Sell by' and 'Use by' dates are pretty much the same and 'THE EXPERTS' say you shouldn't eat anything beyond the Use By date.
You got a bargain. I think freezer food can sometimes be safer, although some have such long dates I think about how many additives there must be in them

Actually frozen foods can be fresher than 'Fresh Foods' sometimes.
It is the low temperature at which they are stored that gives them their longevity, rather than preservatives/additives.

Perhaps I err to much on the side of caution. When I check the dates of food in the fridge if it's over the date I sometimes get the memory of when I had food poisoning and thought I was dying, lol, never want to experience that again
I tend to go by use by dates, i'm a little shocked by Sprouts list of out of date foods tbh. Milk..... NO! Bread... well by the time it gets out of date its hard any way (and very possibly grren) Marg is different as it's pretty much plastic anyway

Sprout must have a strong constitution to drink stale milk and eat old/stale bread I remember when the public was told that marg was healthier than butter, then I read some time ago it's now suggested butter is healthier, and I'm sure I read somewhere marg contains petro chemicals and other such nasties. With all that comes to light about food and the changing opinions of something being healthy one time and then another study comes along and says it isn't it's amazing we're still alive
I use common sense - I also use mt sense of taste, smell and sight like we used to before they started ripping us off with sell by dates etc.
If something is clearly off/soggy/smelly/bad/stale - I bin it.
beef and lamb improve quite a bit past sell by. Mince, chicken and pork and most dairy stuff (other than cheese) I adhere to the dates.
Shell fish and sea food I'm ultra careful.
A lot of sell by dates are quite ridiculous though IMO.
I won't touch dairy if it's past its sell by date Nor fish or chook.
Cheese gets a bit of leeway 'cos I like the blue or stinky stuff anyway.
I can't spell green
I sometimes have to use the Edit button I'm pretty good at spelling but my typing isn't always that great as I hit the wrong keys
The bread was fine is you couldn't see any mould, the milk was fine so long as you sniffed it first and it didn't smell, the margarine is so pumped with chemicals that it will probably last till this time next year!!
I love the chuck-out too, Joe. Tomorrow's Mother's Day lunch is turkey, bought just before the shops closed on Christmas Eve, down from over fifty pounds to nine!
Does anyone follow the freezing guide lines ? when you buy fresh food and it says freeze and eat within a month, I throw so much food away and wonder if it would be ok to eat
If it's in the deep freeze(4 star, -18 or colder) it's fine for a year and often longer, Though if I'm eating it over a year since it was frozen it's probably an accident. These things have to be treated with a modicum of common sense though and there's no 'one single rule covers everything.'
