Maybe you could put it in a container/pot.I think every garden should have Lavender in it

I was told that Clematis dont like wet feet so I always put some peeble at the bottom .

I love white lillies...  even if they are funeral flowers and very pungent... and I love tulips and daffs too.    I don't have flower beds where I live now though - it's just all grass.      Erin, you reminded me of my mother in law with your post... she was a devil for getting her words mixed up and she came in from the garden one day and MEANT to say 'Something's been nibbling at my clematis'

What have I said

Talking about mix up's.My friends father in law was a window cleaner and an old lady he cleaned for asked him if he would like an orange .He said "not for me I don't like fruit" .She then said to him "What about a wee half" and being a drinker he said yes ,she returned with.... a half of the orange.

Oooooooh I've never heard of lily beetles - sounds very scary.

I love Fressias, Gerberas and Lilys too.

I have several clematis in the garden - I have two planted at the bottom of trees and they grow up through the leaves I love that. Er had a honeysuckle outside the patio doors but lost it some years ago - this thread may have spurred me into planting another one.

When we moved in here years ago we had a huge Pampas Grass in the garden - when the kids played to near it cut like a razor - horrible thing - we injured ourselves ripping it out.

Lily Beetles:

They are bright red & quite brazen...   they come out in the sunshine & tend to bonk right there in front of you on the leaf.

They have really good eyesight, & see you coming so if you don't sneak up on them they fall off & burrow into the soil.

The beetle eats chunks out of the leaves, but the main problem with them is that they lay their eggs on the underside of the leaf...  which hatch & the larvae then secret themself in a pile of lily beetle poo to hide...

They devastated my lilies

Twas ok when I kept ontop of it & picked them off by hand, but I was laid up one summer & they had a free reign & chomped their way through them all..    my beautiful lilies ended up chomped stalks covered in lily beetle shit!

They overwinter in the soil..    its been a couple of years now that since I have got rid of the lilies and I am still seeing the odd beetle emerge in the summer.

Other flowers/plants in my garden I love are:

my shasta daisies...   bought one plant a few years ago & have now divided it 4 times!!!   Its the plant that just keeps on giving...   and I love the big daisy flowers.

I also love sunflowers...    pain in the butt having to stake the bigger ones etc..   but I do love them!   They are what started me off gardening...  the first year I was skint so just planted 140 sunflower seeds (loads of different varieties)..    it looked mental & fab when they all came into flower

I love my zebra grass as well (but obviously not a flower)

I had beautiful stargazers in pots in my garden, and these evil beetles eventually destroyed the whole lot. I tried everything, the little feckers would even see me and run and hide when I was on a mission to pick them off the stalks!

I love flowers but don't have the time to cultivate them at the moment. Freesias are my favourite cut flower, and I love Anemones, Azaleas, Sweet Peas, Violets, Red Hot Pokers, aah I love them all.

The coverage of the Chelsea Flower Show is ace this year, saw some of it last night. Would love to go there and have a mooch around.
