Jude the obscure -Thomas Hardy
Ah yes Rosi Thomas Hardy though Jude is probably his darkest book? His poems are interesting too.

James and the Giant Peach
I'm with you there!
Probably should not say this but I am related to Enid Blyton..
oh, you lucky person... how lovely
Thanks, although she is a little way along the family tree, my mother met her.
Oooh how intriguing I liked that biographical drama the BBC did with Helena Bonham Carter as Enid.

You know what, I did not know there was one.
Oooh....a book I really really loved as an adult, was Ben Elton's Blast From the Blast. I highly recommend it!
It was the first book of his that I ever read....and I loved it so much I wanted to read his others.... but yeah, I should have quit while I was ahead.
I love all Ben Eltons - really enjoyed his latest 'Two Brothers'. I think he's a great and very underrated writer.
Maybe I need to give him another chance Sooz? I think it was the Big Brother based one that put me off him.
LOL! Are we all going to go missing from this forum using our Tablets and I-Pads

I'm not into poetry at all but I really like his stuff. I would have loved to have met TH - Charles Dickens too.

Nooooo! Only a paper book will do. Nothing beats the smell of a new book!

Sprout, you mind reader. I was going to ask how many people buy paper books or have gone over to the electronic method of consuming literature.

It was good and she didn't come out too badly. Though apparently she wasn't maternal to her own children, it made you understand why she was the way she was.

I think you'd like Two Brothers - it was a bit of a change of direction but very good.

It's interesting you should say that because within the family she was not renowned for being warm and fuzzy !!!!

good luck...its just not a book to me sadly
Really? I thought that one was very well done.
it just didn't strike me as having much "soul" Fluffs. (It didn't make me love it). But maybe that's appropriate considering it's subject matter.
I'm the same ..............took me a while but I love that you can get a book instantly (and enlarge the text) - I hate wearing glasses
They do. But I love a good bookcase

aww know how you feel but I love my kindle and surprised I do
This is the thing that will eventually convert me to a kindle, I'm sure.
I have been known to end up with two copies of a book through pure impatience. I order them on the internet, then decide I can't wait for the postman and go and grab one from a bookshop.
yep agree - I lubbs my kindle - the cheap/free books are great

Oooh really? How interesting. She came across as a writer first and foremost who loved her readers more than anyone in her life!
They do. But I love a good bookcase
I'm cutting back We have a big one that Mr Woo made in the lounge - one in the bedroom and a smaller one in the spare bedroom. When I knocked through my kitchen diner last year we had to get rid of an ENORMOUS one and literally hundreds of books. They really did start to take over - it was soooooo hard but strangely therapeutic.

It sounds to me like they did some research, I would like to see it now. Will have to keep my eyes open for a repeat.
