Blood pressure up to 139/104 which must be the magic number because, hey presto, the actual consultant appeared rather than just the ususal 12 year old registrars. All ok though, just need to keep being monitored at the hospital next week. Had my first indication of baby size too. Apparently it's 'a good size'. I have a feeling that doesn't necessarily mean good for me though.

PS Hope you're well

Hiya Ms queenie!!
" a good size" is a bit vague... probably close to 7 lbs or more.. what is your actual due date?

Due date 30th August. I think the baby's size is within normal range but the inferrence was that it might be on the larger side of that. Nothing to do with the amount of chip butties and cream cakes I've been eating obviously.
yay! your right about the good size, the better the size is the worse it'll probbaly be for you still they've been wrong in past with baby sizes . it can't be long now \o/
i see my Obstetrician soon, he has cold hands, wears a dickie bow tie and slaps your hand and tells you you are naughty if you asked to know baby's gender at the scan lol. he is apparently quite accurate with his predicting the gender though

Lol! Why do consultants always wear dickie bows? Hospital consultants, pub landlords and my dad must be the only people who still do that. Are you going to find out the gender at your scan?
for you at least you got to see the main man, hope all goes well for you Queeniequote:Originally posted by Queen of the High Teas:

Thanks. My consultant is a laydee. She's really nice, middle aged, Asian but with a broad Brummie/Yorkshire hybrid accent. Very matter of fact which I like. She was telling me about how the midwives from the different departments and hospitals all moan and bitch about each other. She pulled a lot of these faces >

the 9lb3oz pregnancy had gone on too long and she had to go to special care for monitoring - the biggest baby they had had in there! she left hospital wearing 3-6months baby clothes

I'm still so excited!
BTW Queenie... I wouldn't worry about the competence of Registrars... they are often the better person to have looking after you, rather than the Consultant. Registrars are like the energised, up-to-date, still enthusiastic version of the Consultant xxx The registrar would be my first choice everytime xx

Take no notice of anything the hopsitals say about the size of the baby, They told me my son was going to be big (despite the fact that at full term I only looked around 5 months pregnant) and he was 7lb 14oz. They told someone I know that her baby was going to be around 5lbs at most and he was over 9lbs!

If they also wear suits that are too small for them with no socks, it could be George Lamb moonlighting.

I saw a registrar first this morning. She came in, said hello, and told me I could have a sweep there and then if I wanted. I asked why I would need a sweep at 36/7 weeks. She went and THEN decided to look at my notes before saying anything else. Then she noticed I wasn't full term yet.

Brigaaarsss! Not too far from me, can't say I know it very well though. I live in Holmfirth, Last of the Summer Wine village not far from Huddersfield. Having the baby in Halifax though because Hudds is midwife only unit.

Oopsy!
You so don't want a sweep Queenie... it didn't work for me... despite my GP trying every other day for a fortnight!
I have never felt more like one of James Herriots cows in my life!
To be fair the consultant said afterwards that she was rubbish at guessing the size of babies.
