You know those yummy cakey/biscuity things with the 15 digestives/marsmallows/cherries? I bought all the stuff to make them today (for the first time) but only when I checked online for instructions (yeah yeah I needed a guide lol) did I realise I needed condensed milk aswell Been to all the shops nearby and none have any condensed milk so is there any substitute I can use?

sorry cant help, but this will bump it up for you x
Not really condensed milk is different to anything else....you should be able to get it in any supermarket though.
Thanks skylark, I wonder where all the cooks are today?
As Croc said, they sell it from all supermarkets.

just google it, its milk with the water removed and sugar added, so maybe if you boil milk and add sugar and let it cool it may resemble condensed slightly, best i can do lol
I have a tin in my cupboard if that helps at all....
I'm a bit of a cook and I'll sadly confirm that you can't really substitute it I'm afraid. Google 'condensed milk recipe' though and that may show you how to make it, I don't think it's that hard.
Think you need powdered milk to make condensed milk.....don't suppose Ella has that either.
Sorry I don't mean to mock.

I've just had a look and if you can get powdered milk, e.g. Marvel there's a lot of instant recipes.
You can make it using liquid milk but it's a long, slow process...

Sorry hun but I can't think of anything you could use to substitute condensed milk with.
Thanks you lot I may share my fiftenns when I make them
The supermarket is closed til tomorrow and it's quite a bit away so I will have to leave it til next time I'm in town. QOHT, I will read that now thanks
And shaks I didn't take offence and you were spot on, no powdered milk here either. I don't cook/bake so never have anything other than convenience food in the cupboards

For future reference Ells...
* Powdered Milk
* Sugar
* Butter
* Blender or Whisk
* Measuring Cups
* Cooking Pot
1.
Step 1
Boil together 1/2 cup water, 1 cup sugar and 3 tablespoons butter. Stir to mix.
2.
Step 2
Remove from heat and let cool to below the boiling point. Add 1 cup powdered milk. Use a whisk or a blender to combine until smooth.
3.
Step 3
Allow to cool completely. This will replace one can of condensed milk in any recipe.
Failing all that...buy a tin on condensed milk....innit.

Awww....at least you were thinking of her.
I requested (well begged to tell the truth) for my daughter to make her wicked choc brownines, she refused. 30 mins she brings me some, steaming hot with vanilla ice cream *schlurps*.

Awww Those sound divine! I really need to learn how to make stuff!
I teach her...and she ends up making it.
We love baking. It's so much easier than cooking.

I used to go to a training course where every break time the class would rush to the canteen to snap up these fifteens and I used to wonder what all the fuss was about but never tried them. Then my nephew made some at school the other day and I tasted them....they were scrummy! My sister was moaning when she heard she'd missed out on them as she loves them so I thought I'd make them tonight but no such luck I'll buy her a packet and make some for me during the week
