Well that's a good move on your part then. He's been abysmal for Liverpool for ages. Briefly rejuvenated under 'King Kenny' now wants to go to a team he can win things with. Forcing him to stay will mean he will continue his awful form for you. If he comes to us (Chelsea) he'd better buck his ideas up he's not popular at all with Chelsea fans (cheating, diving etc) and we'll expect results from him fast. If he thinks he's depressed now he'll be suicidal when/if he comes to the Bridge unless he loses the self pity and starts performing.
He's also not guaranteed to win anything with us we are on a downward spiral. Messed up situation all round.
I just don't understand it.
Max Cliifford.
As a mere Bolton fan I see the "top" and "bottom" teams at the Reebok and can say with hand on heart (and on badge!) that the worst culprits for diving and cheating are the so-called top players, the ones who need to cheat the very least!
I've been watching football for 38 years and there's always been "gamesmanship" but its a step (or dive) too far from some of the best players in the world who really don't need to make it part of their game - it really does spoil it for me with all these theatrical antics and looking at the ref as though to say - its me, Ronaldo/Fabregas/Torres/Drogba etc, surely you are going to book/send off/give a penalty, etc, etc .... So much talent - and its so unnecessary
Drogba became a hero with Chelsea fans when he stopped diving and instead stayed on his feet and scored goals. Mourinho kicked that out of him. He still lapses. When he's having a bad game he'll fall over. Why? Dunno, but I still hate it. Malouda has been much maligned at Chelsea till he too stopped diving and started playing.
I totally agree, I detest talented players who go down when they have more chance of scoring by staying on their feet. It's the curse of modern football.
me too. Did he really ask for a transfer? I didn't know that - if so he can feck off!!
Yep, it was on LFC-TV
On the bright side Suarez is a good signing.
Kenny's his hero.
Poor guy...
Torres to Chelsea: 'I love you long time come rescue me'.
Sums up modern football really.
This is true - shame it he might not be WITH Torres!
The surprise transfers of Fernando Torres from Liverpool to Chelsea and Andy Carroll from Newcastle to Liverpool led to media images of fans burning replica jerseys with their names and squad numbers.
However, fans have been urged by The Sun to instead donate the shirts to its campaign as part of an "amnesty".
Oxfam's Sarah Farquhar said: "Football shirts are treasured for years by kids and adults alike across West Africa.
"Your unwanted footie shirts will be worn with pride in places such as Senegal and Gambia by football fans who love the game just as much as you do."
Meanwhile, 6-year-old Joseph from Corby told BBC Radio 5 Live that he had spent ÂĢ16 of his own money getting Torres's name and the number 9 printed on his Liverpool shirt just three weeks ago.
When asked whose name he would now put on the shirt if he could remove Torres's, he replied "[Luis] SuÃĄrez". Quizzed on how long his "new hero" would stay at the club, Joseph said about two years
FERNANDO TORRES last night insisted: I am no traitor.
The star Spanish striker has been slammed by a string of former Liverpool greats for his ÂĢ50million move to Chelsea.
But Torres, who makes his Blues debut against his old club in a mouth-watering Stamford Bridge clash tomorrow, rapped: "I don't think it's fair to call me a traitor, though it's an opinion.
"I will never talk badly about any ex-Liverpool players or staff. They can say what they want. I think 'traitor' makes no sense. I had three very good seasons there, left massive money there, scored lots of goals and made good performances.
"I'm very happy with everything I did there.
"I understand it's a difficult situation but I have to think about my career as a footballer.
"It's a step forward, everyone agrees.
"In life, sometimes, there are trains that only come your way once and you have to take that train."
Torres claimed he had the full backing of his good friend and Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard, who twice turned down moves to Chelsea, over the stunning transfer.
He added: "Stevie was one of the first ones who called me and supported me.
"He has been a very good friend and team-mate. He only wanted the best for me and said he'd agree with any decision I made."
While Gerrard may have no hard feelings, Torres understands the Reds' fans do.
Visiting supporters at the Bridge are sure to be hostile.
Torres said: "Maybe it's too soon to ask for a good reception. I'm not expecting that.
"But it would be a surprise for me if I got a very bad reception from them.
"I'm sure they will eventually see what I did here and will think it was fair.
"But football is like this. People love you, then hate you."
Torres will not celebrate if he scores against his old club.
