That happens to me sometimes, as well.  Go back and try again.  If it still doesn't work, cancel your comment, and then refresh the page.  Try again.  Note that the last time this happened to me, it posted, even though I still had the "you must submit a comment" or whatever that message is.

Yellow Rose:  The thread and it's responses are definitely there (although you may be better off for not seeing it )  Try refreshing the page, and/or clearing your cache, and see if that makes it better.  I'm guessing that something on that page has corrupted your browser view.

Yellow Rose and Lori

I've just had a look at my first post on the So So Very Wrong thread and can see why Yellow Rose has had a problem. At that stage the top photo could not be seen by anybody as the poster had linked it to their Hotmail account which of course meant that without being logged on that Hotmail account, no-else could see the photo. So I pur a gigantic ? as my post. That ? was large enough that it slighlty extended over the line separating the avatar etc section from the body of the posting. I have now edited that posting to a normal size so Yellow Rose should be able to see the whole page.

Frankly if I had known what the photo actually looked like I would never have come to the initial poster's aid in being able to show the photo.

Bazille and Lori, I've had a look at Xochi's thread as I wondered if the problem might have been caused by a similar posting as my gigantic ? mentioned above but couldn't see that problem.

The only unusual thing I have noticed is Xochi's Ranting smiley in the opening post. Unusually if one right clicks over this smiley, the menu which appears shows that not only does it show the usual lines for an image, it also shows the lines for a link to a website address. In other words, this smiley is a cross between an image and a link. I am wondering if that is the cause of the problem, though I have no problem in posting on that thread myself.

I have just deleted my post on the Wrong thread so that Scotty and Yellow Rose should be able to see all the posts.

I had created the original gigantic question mark in Word and pasted it on the thread. I had since got rid of the gigantic question mark and replace it with an oridnary mark, so the post now looked normal and I had assumed that it was OK. However I was not aware that the pasting from Word had included various lines of code which remained even though I had removed the question mark. I am fairly certain that it is these lines of code which were causing the problens rather than the question mark itself. So by deleting the posting has hopefully got rid of the problem lines of coding.

I have sent a PM to Lori about this together with the lines of coding which were causing the problem. I will not repeat the lines here as I do not wish to risk affecting this thread.

why cannot there be submit reply to each poster? i find it irritating and confusing to to have to highlight, go to the bottem and click reply before I can,
I think many of us would like this. Not that it's much comfort but there is also a Post Reply box at the top of the page as well as the bottom one.

now i want to go back and sort out spelling typing erros but seems no means to edit either!
In order to correct an error, do this
Move your pointer so that it is over the post you want to correct. At the bottom of that post on the right hand side you shoud see 4 little icons (the two easiet to describe are the second which is a red flag and the third which is a dustbin).
It is the 4th icon you want. Move yoor pointer so that it is over that icon and you should see "Edit Post" appearing. So click on that icon. Note that you will only see that icon on your posts, not on other peoples'.
After a moment you should see your posting comment box with the original text in it.
The process of editing is what you would expect. Move the cursor (the blinking line) to where you want to edt. Use the Backspace to delete the error and tpye in the revised text.
When you have finished, click the Submit Reply button as normal. You should then come back to the forum page showing your revised post.
However you may find that when you click on the Submit Reply button, you get two spinning cogs appear and just stay there. This happens to many of us and has been reported to Gagajoyjoy many times. Hopefully one day they will correct this bug. However if this does happen to you, don't worry because your edited message has been posted. The simplest thing to do is to refresh the screen. If you are using Internet Explorer or Firefox just press the F5 key on your keyboard. You will then see the refreshed screen.

Re: Previewing Post option...

I'd have no problem with it being an optional button that you pressed... say inbetween the Cancel & Submit Reply buttons...   but on some other forums I use you have to preview the post before submitting... its part of the submission process & its a right pain in the rear.... well it is if you have fast moving conversations.

About the preview button:  it's SUPPOSED to be so easy to edit that a preview button would be unnecessary.... and when the edit bug gets fixed, it will be.

Fluffy:  that's a random problem that I think is related to whatever servlet you get (it's a lottery, kind of--roll the dice and it determines your servlet).

A question about Polls if I may.
Hi brisket. If you check the box to permit users to select multiple answers, this means that each user can select as many choices as they want before they click the Vote button. Although users can make another vote, the new choices selected will replace all of the old ones, thus preventing someone from voting for the same choice over and over again. There is no way in which you can restrict the number of choices if more than 1.  I hope that explains it for you.

can it not just say edit
It does actually, as a tool tip after you put your cursor on the icon.

From left to right, the icons are:-

3 Link chain = Permalink - allows you to set up a link to that specific post.

Red flag = Report Post - alert a mod to a questionable post.

Dustbin = Delete Post - allows you to delete your post in its entirety

Paper and pencil = Edit post - allows you to edit your post virtually any time you want. It starts with a generous 'grace period' when you can edit without it being flagged up that you HAVE edited (though there are some provisos.). After this period you can still edit but it will be shown when the post was last edited.
