Just to put my two answers together in case anyone is interested:

First post:
Aimee - re the avatar pictures and IE. Spidermonkey came up with the answer a year ago. I suggest you highlight the below, copy it by pressing Ctrl-C, then going over to Word or something, paste it (Ctrl-V) and print it off. This is what he posted:

Like me, you will no doubt have been suffering with the avatar/images issue where most pictures fail to appear.

I am happy to tell you that I have found a way to fix this.

The problem seems to be that all the avatars and so on are from the livecloud.com domain, but forum itself is on the gagajoyjoy.com domain.  Some how this is making IE's Privacy Protection System become nervous and it is not allowing media from the livecloud.com domain to appear.

Anyway, that being the case, you should try following these steps and see if you have the same success that I've had.

Step 1 - look at the VERY bottom of Internet Explorer, you'll see the status bar which has various little symbols.  One of these symbols looks like an eye, with a small red and white circle beneath it.

Step 2 - double click that eye, and a dialogue should then appear.

Step 3 - at the bottom of the dialogue will be a SETTINGS button, click it, another dialogue appears.

Step 4 - about half way down the dialogue will be a SITES button, click it, another dialogue appears.

Step 5 - Find the text box with a label above it which says "Address of website".

Step 6 - in that text box type livecloud.com

Step 7 - find the button called ALLOW, and click it.

Step 8 - in the list box below, livecloud.com should now be present, and next to it, the words Always Allow.

Step 9 - at the bottom of the dialogue is an OK button, click it.

Step 10 - close all the remaining open dialogues.

Step 11 - refresh this page to see if it's worked.

Yes, it's a bit of a long winded process but I've tried to make it as easy to understand as I can.  Let me know how you get along.

Second post:
Aimee, I've had another look at SpiderMonkey's thread on this, and in a later thread he posted this which replaces steps 1 to 3:

In which case, in IE's menu at the top (under Tools per El Loro), open Internet Options, select the Privacy tab, and then continue my guide from Step 4 onward.

I've done a little snapshot which shows the Intenet Options screen and the Privacy screen to the right - if you look closely you will see the finished result you should get. (at least on my version of IE)

To Lori or anyone at Seattle who sees this:

I have seen this announcement on the Social Strata help site posted yesterday by Dave.

We will be doing infrastructure improvements and fail-over testing between 9:00PM October 2nd and 12:00AM October 3rd and again between 9:00PM October 3rd and 12:00AM October 4th(all times Pacific.)

Please expect intermittent outages during this period lasting for up to 5 minutes.

For questions or concerns please open a ticket here.
Social Strata Operations

Will this be affecting this forum or not. If it is, it would be advisable to put a short term sticky announcment so that we know about it in advance.

If I'm right with my maths, that means here in the UK 5.00am to 8.00pm on October 3rd and 5.00am to 8.00pm on October 4th or 6.00am to 9.00pm depending on whether that's Pacific Daylight or Standard time. Gets a bit confusing as we get different results depending on which site I look at.

But as a guide to Seattle, at the time of posting this it is 18.45 pm. So you can tell the difference betwwen this and the time of this posting as it appears to you.

Reference:
depending on whether that's Pacific Daylight or Standard time.
Pacific Daylight is like BST for us and Pacific Standard is like our GMT, so for the main part the difference is 8 hours.
As we change our clocks on different weekends there are two short periods every year where the difference is an hour more or an hour less(i.e. we change the clocks on the last weekend of October and America change on the first weekend of November) but is is only for a week each time, so it is fairly insignificant.
Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing
I have now discovered what is going on with the odd times found by people over the last few hours.

The Pacific Time Zone put back the clock by 1 hour at 2 this morning. It has taken time for the forum server time settings to get themselves sorted out.

On other threads postings that I made by 8.59 UK time are showing as 1 hour later than they really are. Postings made since 9.00 UK time are showing correctly. If you look at the Lily Allen thread you will see that I have made two postings today. The first showing a later time than the second time (as the first was made by me before 9 and the second after).

So provided members' settings here are set to GMT, there is nothing for members to do.
