I'm not watching the series as I saw the original film and din't like it. But I thought I would mention another film called "A Simple Plan" which was made a couple of years later. There are some similarities between Fargo, the film, and A Simple Plan with both about how money can be a corrupting influence. Also both films make exceptional use of snowy landscapes of northern states in the USA

Also Billy Bob Thornton was in A Simple Plan and was nominated for the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

It's a very good film, and I rate it as the best film of the 90s that I've seen.

A Simple Plan was excellent - and much better than the overrated Fargo which I didn't like much.

Fargo on tv is very different and well worth a watch El Loro -  less stupidly quirky/irritating than the film, with more deeply drawn characters that draw you in more,. Billy Bob Thornton and Martin Freeman are fantastic. Its darkly funny in places too.

I'm going to have to get myself one of those new fangled recording devices

You must... I couldn't live without mine.   I hardly ever watch TV live.  I set it to record everything I want to see in a week then watch depending on my mood/time available.

I think Freeman is one of those actors who makes it look too easy. He also hasn't been helped by being somewhat typecast in "everyman"-type roles.

Whenever you see or read him in interviews he's very humble and self-effacing, but beneath that you can sense a very serious actor, and I get the feeling he's a little disappointed at not being able to do more "proper" acting on stage.
