I know it's not quite as simple as this but I remember when I was growing up and there was a furore about kids who had a tv in their bedroom, and parents didn't monitor what they were watching after the 9pm watershed.

It's still just checking that you know what your kids are up to surely? 

Even though FB didn't exist and the internet still needed winding up to get going, I always kept an eye on what she was doing online.

BTW, I like your style of sneaking in to check on the boy.  I was not above a bit of that too, but I always was pleasantly surprised to find I already knew everything cos she'd already told me. 

Is that right then that you have to be over 18 to have a FB account or is that just a recommendation? I know the child of a someone very famous who is 13 and has a FB account but she has it in her mothers maiden name which gives her almost complete anonymity (sp) as it's her dad whose name is so well known.

Plus her account is on the highest security setting so she is pretty safe. I'm sure that any celebs kid could do the same or just use another name that only their mates have - and just give them strict instructions not to add anyone they don't know personally

I never spied on my sons! They are now in their late 20's but I never listened in on phone calls, read their mail or snooped about on their internet stuff. I know it's a lot different now with FB but I trusted mine to do the right thing and they never betrayed that trust.

Or if they did I never found out!!

Been out of the loop so long (for obvious reasons)    so why are gaagaaaga displaying birhdays  of folks that folks might not want them displayed and even more don't want their forum names/ some that no longer exist being plastered all over the front page. Just asking

You can choose not to have your birthday displayed Fletch, and also your presence not to be shown as online. You can do this in your privacy settings.

As to why they have started showing birthdays - I dunno

well Veggieburger maybe THEY thought is would be a good idea to himiliate the ones who don't have enough friends to wish them a happy birthday and won't get any congratulations.   give the people what they want but common cecency to ask first no?  

they must have lowered it to 13 Veggie - I know when I first registered you had to be 18 - dunno when they did it mind 

I reckon it was probably to do with becoming the main social networking site used by the masses..    to do that they had to get the myspace & bebo people over to facebook..    to do this they had to lower the minimum age of account holders

don't have a bad opinion of them at all why would you say that?  that's how trouble starts when wrong opinions and accusations are tossed about.  you some kind of unofficial; spokesperson?   just wondered at the decision to take up a lot of room for the uneccesary infornation, that friends of friends woud post anyway. most forums have a discreet box that mentions special days that's all.

No I'm not a spokesperson. There are threads around about the changes where they were debated. As to the throwing accusations out, you are the person who suggested that THEY (your capitals) thought it would be a good idea to humiliate people.

Afternoon all from Tumbleweed Junction.  You can set up a group or whatever its called on FekPuke and as it is by definition not one person you cannot be expected to have a real photo and its unlikely to have real name.  Unless its of the style of "Bill Smith is a Great Bloke" (apologies Bill for generating interest in your group) or the ever popular "Cheryl Coles' Vagina" which attracted a passing interest, but no photos we are glad to observe. (its good to press the Like button though)

My view remains as previously discussed elsewhere:

This is my view. CH5 have complained. They are in an advert sharing agreement with FB. Their view is that our constant spamming stopped people going onto the 'Official' BB site (Remember that Ch5 BB also got FB to remove existing BB FB sites when they set up and the owners of the groups that were removed were not notified, they just found their memberships were transferred to the Official site. Some groups had 15000 members and the owners got nothing. When you look at the 50K+ members on BB Official remember where they came from.
SO Ch5 BB told FB to stop the spamming. Because the spamming was articulate and not rude or offensive they could not pull anyone for breaking the T&C but what they could do was go through the spammer's friends and remove anyone not judged to have a proper name and/or picture. You can come back but you have to provide a government issued document with your photo, name and DOB (clearly) on. A driving licence wont do because the date is jumbled. Mostly people don't have anything apart from their passport, and would you trust FB with your passport details?
As I say, that is my view. They know people will come back but they are trying to stop the spamming by putting the shytes up people.
I also think if people set up accounts with real names (not necessarily their own) and real photos (of any randomly chosen real person) they would have to think of some other reason to bop them.  That would be especially true if they made a point of having no friends, just sat there talking to themselves and periodically haranguing BB on the Official Site.  The other advantage of that is that if BB/FB decide to bop them they wont lose all the friends and games they have built up over time.

So, let me get this straight....  First it was  supposedly the BB Live Feeders fault.... then it wasn't.... The it was supposedly the fault of people out to cause mischief.... then it wasn't.  Now it is supposedly the BB Live feeders again.   My view is that it might be an idea to wait for real proof...... one way or the other. Just a thought.

Proof - you wont get it.  And I said that it was my point of view based on what I can see of the evidence and trying to see why it could have happened.

It could have been a random cull - but it seems pretty unlikely.  If it wasn't it was carried out by people with authority for a particular purpose.

People out to cause mischief? Not sure I know what you mean here Baz.

1: That some people wanted to cause mischief so they got FB to delete people's accounts? 

2: Or do you mean that FB account holders were trying to cause mischief and that is why they got deleted?

I have had a good look at FB and I cannot see anywhere that they provide a contact address.  Nowhere do they say drop us a line if you want to complain about someone else.  I may have missed it of course.  I have quite a few addresses for FB but I got them from elsewhere.

As for 2: I think that the only mischief that many of the culled committed was to ask for Live Feed.  Of course you could argue that this was considered fairly vexatious by BB as it was distracting FB readers from reading the BB updates and that was impacting click-throughs on the CH5 BB adverts.

I don't think that it was the fault of the BB Live Feeders and I don't think that I suggested it was.  I think (Notice again that this is my opinion) that the culling was done by FB at the behest of Ch5 and the reason that they did it was the LiveFeeders were pissing them off.  Its the best theory I have heard so far anyway. 

Was the culling the fault of the LiveFeeders? Of course not.

It was Ch5.

Just a thought as well.

I  was certainly NOT suggesting that the people who got culled had caused any mischief....  I was simply  commenting on the various reasons that have been put forward in this particular thread. In fact , I have no idea why the cull happened.....  but then neither does anyone else at this point....and sometimes it is better no to speculate..  Only my  opinion of course

Indeed so Baz, we are all suspicious creatures at the end of the day.  Because of other information that I have been given I think I am pretty close to the truth though.  And as for speculation, we have always relied on it as the mainstay of our forum conversations.  Its a bit like the Cargo Cults.  People deprived of information will necessarily develop a story that fits such facts as they have.  In the case of Cargo Cultists (and other 'faiths' if truth were to be told) they managed to invent a religion to fit their facts.  In the case of forums we can invent a Harry Potter length novel to fit very few facts at our disposal.  And that is a main reason we miss the LF.  The few hints we got between birdsong and garden shots were enough to engage 1000+ forummers for pages on end.  We have nothing now.  We miss our gods.

tbf Sprout, its no different to trying to come on here one day & finding your account disabled.  I know you don't use Facebook, but to the people it happened to I would imagine it was quite a big deal.    And I can totally understand those affected feeling quite bewildered about it..    especially when speculation starts flying (whatever that speculation be)...    

if it were me & my account had been disabled & I was then told it was because someone had reported it I would be feeling quite upset about it. 

However, I do kinda agree with the general sentiment of your post..   sometimes life is too short, and if possible its probably better just to move on etc
