Webber finally makes it past Alonso, but two corners later Alonso is ahead again.

Hamilton pits and is now P2 - Vettel leading again.

Button gets the jump on Webber - there's a possible touch, but no apparent damage - and he just sails past Alonso to.

Massa pits - P6 to P9

Webber is told not to fight Button because Button has to change to hard tyres for the final few laps.

Button seems to be dropping back now.

Massa gets out of shape.

Alonso pits and exits P5

Webber - on hards- just going faster than all the rest

Schumacher pits - now P7

Rosberg pits - he's now P7, so Schumacher's back to P6

Petrov has pitted and is behind Perez now

The leaders are wading through some tail-endefs now, so their lap times are dropping

Vettel's KERs is not working - he could struggle to fend-off Hamilton

Heidfeld passes Petrov for P11

Rosberg in P7 has just been lapped....Schumacher is next.

Vettel pits to P2

Button pits to P3

Perez pits to P13

Hamilton pits to P2

Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing

Alonso's in trouble, with deteriorating tyres and is dropping back, but not losing position....YET!

Heidfeld passes Massa, who was passed by Perez earlier, and so Hidfeld is now chasing Perez whom he passes a few corners later.

Massa goes off track agai and looks to be beached in the gravel - yes, he's out.

Vettel only 0.7 ahead of Hamilton

Alonso is about to be lapped now.

Hamilton now a bit out of shape.

Lap 63 out of 66 and Vettel is still only 0.7 ahead of Hamilton.

It is not known if Vettel has no KERs, or is just saving it 'til it's REALLY crucial.

Leaders approaching traffic again.

Only the top 4 cars are on the same lap

And Vettel wins by 0.6 over Hamilton.

Q1

Cars starting to emergge from garages

Petrov, Schumacher and d'Ambrosio are the first three out

18. Kovalainen

20. Algeursuari

21. Glock

22.d'Ambrosio

Karthikeyan and Liuzzi set no times in the qualifying session, but their practice times appear to be within the 107%, so it looks like we'll have a 24 car race.

Alguersuari is to be called before the stewards because of contact with Kobayashi.

ACCIDENT!

Perez has crashed - Just out of the tunnel - session Red Flagged with 2 minutes 26 seconds left.

He went sideways into the barrier, but it was a hefty impact.

The car is being removed now, you can see the side is totally mashed.

Perez is in the ambulance now - news is he is concious and talking....and has been conscious all the time.

Back to qualifying - some cars haven't set a time yet.

Back to crash site - they're actually using a truck to push the crash barriers into place. The make up of the barrier is being changed slightly.

Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing

Hamilton, Maldonado and Perez are the ones without times.

8 minute to restart has just been announced

All the cars are lined up waiting to go, but there's still a minute to wait. Wil tyre performance be compromised?

All 9 cars are out on track, Hamilton first Massa last

Hamilton only makes P7

Button is coasting

News filters back that Hamilton only makes P7 and the other cars just return to the pits, except Maldonado so as to set a time - he makes P9

Perez will start P10 as long as he's OK

Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing

Qualifying result:-

1. Vettel

2. Button

3. Webber

4. Alonso

5. Schumacher

6. Massa

7. Rosberg

8. Maldonado

9. Hamilton

10. Perez

11. Petrov

12. Barrichello

13. Kobayashi

14. Di Resta

15. Sutil

16. Heidfeld

17. Buemi

18. Kovalainen

19. Trulli

20. Algeursuari

21. Glock

22.d'Ambrosio

23. Karthikeyan

24. Liuzzi

Hamilton's fastest time was disqualified, as he cut a chicane.

Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing

Perez is declared unable to race.

Formation lap underway

Hamilton is on soft tyres, the rest are on hards

Vettel shoots off. Button and Alonso are side by side for a bit, but Button holds onto P2 and Alonso takes P3

Schumacher passes Hamilton, who had got past him during the start

Hamilton re-catching a slightly damaged Schumacher - but the damage is not enough to warrent the time lost in a pit-stop

Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing

Button now getting away from Alonso and appears to be catching Vettel

Hamilton is pressing Schumacher, jinking around looking for an opportunity to pass which comes in lap 11, at the corner just before Casino Square.

Barrichello has now passed Schumacher too, at the hairpin just before the tunnel

Schumacher pits on the next lap and is now P21

Massa now, pressing Rosberg. He gets extremely close....and loses a bit of front wing - seems to be OK though.

Massa successfully passes Rosberg this time and Maldonado follows him through

Karthikeyan is about to be lapped

Button pits from P2 and is now P4

There are yellow flags around the pit lane exit, but it's not clear why

Vettel pits followed shortly by Webber. There's a slight error with Webber's stop and it takes longer than it should have.

Vettel is now P3 and Webber P14, behind Buemi

Alonso is now leading, but has just entered the pit lane on lap 20 of 78

So it's Button leading, Vettel in P2 and Alonso slots into P3 after that pit-stop

Followed by:-

Massa

Maldonado

Petrov

Hamilton

Barrichello

Di Resta

Kobayashi

Sutil

Heidfeld

Buemi

Webber

Trulli

Alguersuari

Webber up to P13

Hamilton pits, but the team weren't ready for him. He exits to P15, behind Alguersuari, but now passes him for P14

Webber now P12

Di Resta has pitted now too, for a new nose after a collision at the hairpin

Maldonado pits and drops to P13

Massa pits and slots in behind Webber for P10

Di Resta gets a drive-through penalty for that collision

Petrov pits and exits P13

Schumacher passes Rosberg at the hairpin too.

Hamilton is pressing Massa, but Massa closes him out.

Hamilton looks at Massa again, but is still not able to pass.

Glock goes out of race....yellow flags are waved but no Safety Car deployed.

Many cars pit, but not Vettel

Hamilton and Massa collide at the hairpin and Massa also touches Webber

Schumacher has broken down at the pit lane entry - Safety Car is deployed!

Hamilton passes Massa in the tunnel and Massa hits the wall and crashes.

Safety Car will come in at end of lap 38

Restart....and Vettel is 4 seconds ahead of Button who has 2 cars to lap before he can reach Vettel

Some of the lower order cars are running side by side.

The Hamilton/Massa collision at the hairpin is to be investigated

Hamilton now pressing Webber

Button is now 0.6 of a second behind Vettel

Di Resta is now P18 after his Drive-through

Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing

Drive-through penalty for Namilton for the collision with Massa and after taking it he is P9

Webber now eying up Kobayashi

Button pits from P2 and exits P3 behind Buemi who only yields after a blue flag

Hamilton pits from P9 - and is still P9

There's a lot of speculation about whether Vettel willpit or not. He's only pitted once so far. He's only 1.9 ahead of Alonso and 7.2 ahead of Button. If he pits now, he will be behind them both.

Webber pits and exits P9

Hamilton now fighting Maldonado for P8

*Feels like we've had a full race already, but we're only 2/3 of the way through. *

Vettel, Alonso and button are only 0.4 and 0.7 apart!

Alonso, who is now sandwiched, has to try and pass Vettel and hold off Button at the same time.

Alonso is now almost touching Vettel, but Vettel remains ahead

The 4th placed car is almost a minute behind Vettel

Alonso is almost touching Vettel at each corner

Alonso misses the chicane and drops away from Vettel slightly

The leaders are approaching some tail-enders, seven in line, they (the tail enders) are so busy fighting each other that they don't see the leaders coming up to lap them

Petrov goes into the wall, but the leaders get through ok.

Alguersuari hits Hamilton and Alguersuari and Petrov go into the wall. This is because Sutil went wide when Maldonado passed him and forced Hamilton to break.

Safety Car is deployed again.

Lap 72/78 the race is red flagged.

With 71 laps completed the race is probably over, but the mechanics come out to the cars  just in case the race IS restarted.

The race is to restart behind the Safety Car for one lap.

McLaren will try to repair Hamilton's rear wing on track and apparently tyres can be changed on track too.

Petrov might have been knocked unconscious, but is conscious now and is out of his car. It seems he only has a bit of bruising to his legs.

Hamilton's car still not looking ready, with 1 minute to go.

TYRE BLANKETS ARE OFF!

Race starts again - with a lot of debris still at the side of the track.

Safety CAR WILL COME IN AT THE END OF LAP 73

Maldonado crashes because Hamilton hits him - looks like another penalty for Hamilton - no Safety Car though as they managed to clear Maldonado's car before the other cars came round again.

Webber is pressing Kobayashi for P4. As they come out of the tunnel Webber makes his move, Kobayashi runs through the chicane and Webber is now through to P4

Kobayashi manages to hold off Hamilton

Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing

Perez has been declared fit to participate in the Canadian GP, but after Friday's practice session he told his team he didn't 'feel right' and would not be taking part.

Strangely, the team did not have their reserve driver with them and so arranged to borrow someone else's test driver to cover.

Ironically (some have said) the person they chose was Pedro De La Rosa, the driver they sacked near the end of last season, but in a way it sort of makes sense. Pedro would not be as unfamiliar with their car and general set up as others might be, as it was only a matter of months since he was driving regularly for them.
