Safety Car's in again. Everybody's away ok.
Kubica seems to be catching Vettel, but I think it will prove to be a temporary illusion.
THIRD SAFETY CAR!!!

No-one's really sure why. Possibly a loose drain cover.
In again, race starts again, everyone gets back up to race speed again.....again.

I want to see it as race speed all the time

ยฃ laps to go....Accident!!!....Safety Car out for the 4th time.

Trulli and Chandhok try and occupy the same space. It didn't work! Trulli ended up on top of Chandhok's car. Pretty much right in front of Webber, but he was able to avoid getting caught up in it.
Schumacher appears to have passed Alonso just at the very end as the safety car came in just before the end of the last lap, but its legllity is being investigated by the stewards.
So did Alonso finish 6th or 7th, and where might Schumacher be?
Red Bull are leading BOTH championships.
Slow-mo of Schumacher passing Alonso and it WAS legitimate...just!

Seems that if the Safety Car is out for the last lap you might NOT be allowed to overtake between it coming in and the chequered flag. So Schmacher's 6th place is still in question.
It would appear to hinge on the question of whether the race finished under the safety car, or not.

It has now been announced that Schumacher has been given a 20 second penalty for overtaking Alonso on the last corner of the last lap. So that demotes him to 12th. Mercedes are going to appeal against it , saying that the Safety car came in before the last lap ended.
BUT....
....the regulations say....Article 40.13 of the Formula 1 sporting regulations states: "If the race ends while the safety car is deployed it will enter the pit lane at the end of the last lap and the cars will take the chequered flag as normal without overtaking."
IMO that quite clearly shows that Schumacher shouldn't have overtaken Alonso as they WERE still under the safety car when they entered the last lap, therefore, in accordance with the above , the safety car came into the pits and left the cars to cross the line unfettered.

Not cross the start/ finish line and go all the way round again, which seems to be what Ross Brawn thinks it ought to have done.I think their appeal is going to be laughed out of existence.

Ross Brawn said "As soon as we got the instruction that the safety car was going in we thought the race was on again."
I think this is just a poor excuse as he MUST be aware of the aforementioned article 40.13

So, Mercedes DIDN'T appeal.
Brawn and co. can waffle on as much as they like about how they realised it would be unfair when they realised that Alonso had been told NOT to race, but I still reckon that they know they were on a sticky wicket because the regulation quite clearly says that the Safety Car will come in on the last lap and the cars CAN'T race.
"It's only six points", they say.
