Sour grapes from Vettel, IMO. I'm usually on Vettel's side, but today I'm with Kvyat.

Yes, I think he probably went a bit overboard. Kvyatt seemed to handle it quite well. Vettel is getting a bit of a rep for blowing off then calming down later and realising he may have been a bit OTT.

Still, good telly.

Well I did not expect that from Russia!

  • Loved Vettel's four letter outburst in the car, I think we were left in no doubt how he felt. Although it would seem that after the race he admitted to lifting off as he thought he had a puncture.

  • Lewis is not getting any luck at the moment and it's starting to show in his body language. Still he did quite well to get to 2nd, so should feel a little better.

  • Pleased for MaClaren picking up points and looking like they have made a step forward (6 years and they will be challenging up front).

  • Also please that the Williams team picked up some solid points.

  • Still hate Steve Jones - consummate tosser.

Nikki Lauder has said,

"It was a miscalculation in Lewis's head, I blame him more than Nico.

"But for the team and for Mercedes it is unacceptable.

"Lewis was too aggressive to pass him and why should Nico give him room? He was in the lead.

"It is completely unnecessary and for me the disaster is that all Mercedes are out after two corners."

As good as it was for Max to take the win and he drove very, very, well I still think it was one of those one off's. We will see it as Merc, Ferrari and then Red Bull IMO. However it does mean that if Max can carry on challenging it may make future races less predictable. I'll stick my neck out and say that he won't win again this year, but he make get a podium.

Proper history made today.

Going for a space??

Yes, and hearing the info coming out it seems that Nico lost some power opening up an opportunity for Lewis to take a tight inside line, the picture shows a car width until Nico closes in, Lewis goes to grass and as such he inevitably loses any control of the car.

Would seem that as more info comes out it is less easy to apportion blame. I don't think it will do the team any good stewing over this. Call it a racing incident and move on.

At least Mercedes let their team members race unlike Ferrari.

El may be alluding to the talent. At 18 his future is very very bright.

Yes, I'm definitely not disputing the potential, he's already proved at Torro Rosso he is a talent in a lesser car. I just get the feeling he may have to wait a year or two. Red Bull may need to put something under him that is more consistently competitive with the Ferrari's.

It will be interesting to see what happens over the next 5 or 6 races.

The thoughts of comrade EC on F1 on C4, Sunday.

  • Verstappen! From hero to zero, that's zero points.
  • How much more bad luck can Lewis get this season? At first I thought he was not going to put a lap in on Q3.
  • The rain was a blessing for the most expensive 'train' on the race calendar. If it were not for tradition this track should be wiped from the race calendar.
  • What was Rosberg doing, he seemed almost disinterested in the race after the first few laps.
  • Really enjoyed some of the comings together and the radio transmissions. I'm looking at you Nasr.
  • What the hell was that prat Beebler doing so close the the podium.
  • I feel a bit for Daniel R as he had a cracking pole and looked very racey but let down by the team again. Red Bull need to do some work there as he was mightily peed off.
  • Great that Lewis got the win and closed the gap, we might see a bit of a battle now, hopefully if Mercedes put both Lewis and Rosberg in working cars and Daniel R continues to show that competitive edge.

I have had chance to reflect on the race and although I still don't like it as a race, it was better than usual. For me they need to do something to make more overtaking opportunities in future. I know where but can't remember the name of the schican.

I've just turned over. Not happy on the time it's on, but given where it is and the time difference......

They could've showed it live but I guess it would've clashed with the footie

Also Channel 4 don't have this as one of their live races. Difficult with timing and Football as you say. I kinda wished it was later, I would then record and go to bed watching it next morning.

They should've moved Monaco forward

Palmer's better than where he is, I think

Sounds like Renault just don't have the car sorted.

See, if everyone was in the same car it might make a difference

I think it would be minimal as you can see how difficult it is for team members to pass each other during the race. Verstappen is a good case in point, he is a good driver and can take calculated risks, if we had more of that we might have more of a shakeup.

Really?  you don't see that if the Merc was downgraded to maybe a Williams spec or a Haas upgraded to a Ferrari spec, that it wouldn't shake things up?

No, I think it would neutralise a lot and it may become mostly processional. But it's all hypothetical, however I would like to see it happen as an experiment though.

That's my point....if they all were on the same spec of car than maybe we would find out those drivers who were able to cut it

I think the reasons people like Lewis are in top cars is that they have proven they are excellent drivers. Alonso is the exception as he made a move that failed in terms of a competitive car.

So you don't think Button's a good driver then?

If he had the same car as everyone else, he'd be just fine
