Don't know about the singing , but
Also, a bit of support for absent hosts...
You can join me in singing out of tune Eugene ...like most of the country
They reckon 180,000,000 will be watching tonight....
Just to warn you: I'm still trying to get food ready, etc. , so might not be posting much for the first 15-20 mins...

I don't suppose you'll miss much
The theme this year is....'United By Music'
Made it in time for the first song!
A song about Edgar Allan Poe!

Yeah, I didn't get the significance...|
Neutral points

Because they paid. Could be their last year, though: they only signed up for 5 years. Unclear if they're going to renew for 2024...
Pro -tip: if you have subtitles on, it shows the English translation of the lyrics...

Oh okay, I didn;t realise a country could pay to join
Why would they I ask myself

BTW: the Eurovision area is (IIRC) based on longitude and latitude, so isn't just reserved for "Europe": Israel's competing this year, and Morocco has in the past too...

IIRC, Australia were originally invited as a "one-off" for an anniversary year, but they then asked to stay.
I believe Eurovision's big in Australia: lots of ABBA fans over there...
@slimfern posted:Switzerland...nice voice
Not sure about the dancers...

So they should change the name of the contest.....
Maybe 'Best of Whomever Wants to Join in'

Lots of Muriels huh
Good singer for Cyprus, but the song was... meh.
As for Serbia... Someone had a bad lockdown...
Some flamenco rhythms going on here...
Competition favourite Sweden up now. Loreen aiming to be the first woman to win the competition twice...

I'm happy to forgive Cyprus.... for their beaches alone

Didn't Johnny Logan do that for Ireland?
The Corrs, Albanian style...
@slimfern posted:Didn't Johnny Logan do that for Ireland?
Yes, which is why Loreen's a aiming to be the first woman to do it...
@slimfern posted:Didn't Johnny Logan do that for Ireland?
Actually: as it's officially a song contest, Logan has technically won it three times: once as singer, once as singer-songwriter and once as songwriter only...

I was out the room...any good?
@slimfern posted:I was out the room...any good?
TBH, I wasn't that struck by it.
It has that "slow-burn" vibe about it, though, and I could see it doing well on the viewers' vote...

Doesn't the man have a job
Oh: Finland up next. Another audience favourite!

Cha Cha Cha....

The translated lyrics are very funny - very alcohol-based.
The singer's had a couple of pina coladas, and then pours a bottle of champagne over himself...
@slimfern posted:Estonia....powerful voice
Very true, but again didn't find the song all that memorable...

Well, it is a Saturday night
Aussies on now...
It's been mentioned elsewhere, but I've seen the lead singer before: his day job is as an immigration lawyer, and as such he's often been interviewed on the news...
