A film called "Enter the Void" has just been certified by the BBFC for cinema release on 24 September. This film directed by Gaspar Noe is classified as 18, but what what I have read about it, anybody who went to see it without being fully forewarned is likely to be in a state of shock by the end of the film. This is not a film which is likely to be shown in many cinemas  It will probably be released on DVD, but I doubt if it will ever be shown on television due to its extreme nature.

I will not go into any detail about it's content as I would face a ban from the forum. I would however strongly suggest that anyone thinking of seeing this film or buying the DVD should research the film, for instance on the IMDB site, looking at some of the users reviews will soon give you a feel for the nature of the material, sexual, violence, drug use etc etc etc

One very important warning. This director is noted for his agressive use of strobing effects, and I think this film will be full of them. Therefore anyone who suffers from epilepsy must not see this film.

The BBFC has today announced that the distributors have chosen (not been instructed by the BBFC) to release the film in a shortened version, by omitting the 7th reel of what would be a 9 reel film. The distributors have also indicated that the film shoul be projected at 25 frames per second instead of the normal 24 frames. I think that the reel consistes mainly of hallucinatory images. The 25 frames per second means that the film will play at the same speed as an ordinary DVD.

The BBFC text reads:
ENTER THE VOID was originally classified '18' uncut for cinema release on 02/08/2010. The film consisted of nine reels of 35mm film with a total running time of 2 hours 40 minutes 49 seconds (projected at 24 frames per second). Subsequent to classification, the company informed us that they now intended to distribute the film without reel seven. Accordingly a shortened version of the film, omitting this reel, was classified '18' uncut on 12/08/2010 with a running time of 2 hours 22 minutes 50 seconds (projected at 24 frames per second). Other than the deletion of reel seven, the latest version of the film is identical to the previous version. The film's director has also stated that ENTER THE VOID should be projected at the speed of 25 frames per second, rather than the more normal 24 frames per second. If the film is projected at this speed, the shortened version will have a running time of 2 hours 17 minutes 7 seconds. The original version, including the seventh reel, would have a running time of 2 hours 34 minutes 23 seconds.

I gave a warning about the content of the film in the above post. The BBFC have now issued their Extended Classification Information on this film. This information contains material which would cause offence if I showed it here. However I would advise anyone who is thinking of seeing the film to read this ECI which can be obtained by clicking on this link, then clicking on Show Details when you get there.

However I can show the last paragraph which confirms my strong warning re strobing:
ENTER THE VOID also includes a number of sequences of flashing and flickering lights that are likely to trigger a physical reaction in vulnerable viewers. It also contains extended sequences featuring rotating and handheld camerawork that may induce motion sickness in some viewers.

I have created this thread more more public information - I have no intention of ever seeing this film as franky it seems utterly revolting.
