As some may know (Velvet Donkey) I'm, a huge fan of Ennio Morricone. I own lots of his soundtracks. The man is proflific to say the least.

Ecstacy of Gold is a superb, emotional piece which builds the tension of the scene beautifully.

So much great music, the man will be missed, but his musical legacy will live on. RIP EN.

A much lighter and more suitable theme for a film with a comic element.

A hugely influential figure in both music and cinema. Surprisingly, I don't think I'd appreciated prior to hearing the obituaries today that he and Sergio Leone had known each-other since primary school.

So many great soundtracks but, for me, I think the most important remains "For a Few Dollars More": the integration of the soundtrack into the action through the pocket watch chimes in order to heighten the emotional understanding and impact of key scenes was revelatory.

The piece of music known as "Deborah's Theme" from "Once Upon a Time in America" is beautiful. This is a clip with that music and stills from the film. It is not representative of that film which is far from beautiful. Deborah was played by Elizabeith McGovern who years later would be in Downton Abbey, very different to that film.

"Deborah's Theme" is similar to his "Gill's Theme" from "Once upon a Time in the West". Other than the titles, the director and the composer, there is no connection between the two films, they are vey different.

I LOVE his music .....have loads on my iPad . His music touches my soul and often literally sends shivers down my spine . I remember seeing one of his concerts ....I think it was the Italian one ....on TV ....it was mesmerising . He was one of the few people  I’d have paid good money to see live . My favourites are the version of the Ecstacy that EC posted above ( I think that’s the concert I watched)  , the music from the Mission , Once Upon a Time in America , and also Once upon a Time in the West .

RIP ....and thank you for the music 

The well known theme music for this BBC series was  composed by Morricone and is known as "Chi Mai"

A 1971 film called Maddalena was mentioned on Radio 4's The Film Programme this afternoon. It's a foreign film of no worth other than that the score was by Ennio Morricone.
I did find the first half of the film on Daily Motion:

The film is unwatchable and is interrupted by adverts.
If you go to 41 minutes 35 seconds in you will hear one of Morricone's masterpieces which you will know. He wrote it for this film originally.
Apparently the film has nudity in it though not in the scene with the music.

That's good. You only need to start warching the film to realise that it's unwatchable. I just moved the time pointer at random until I found what I was looking for so I didn't need to suffer watching it.
