A piece of what? Glance

Where I live in Scotland, a 'piece'is a sandwich (or a bring to work lunch), however I have a laugh whenever I go back to London and tell my friends that " I took a piece to work today", cos a "piece" means a GUN.......

I noticed someone on about a fried egg sandwich and there was I thinking my husband was the only person in the world who eat that - he will be happy when I tell him tomorrow as I take the mickey about him and his fried egg sandwiches!!

Can't beat chip butties on uncut bread with loads of butter so as the warmth of the chips melt the butter, but the chips have to be home cooked or from our local chippy which are nearly as good as home cooked.

Feeling hungry now...

I've just read an article on The Times online which was romanticising egg and chips as the epitome of the working class 'tea'. As a result, it was implied that it was not something that the middle classes would ever admit to eating. Although it's not a meal I have very often I have to say that I LOVE fried eggs with home made chips and bread and butter. To me it's total comfort food and one of my favourite things ever. I come from a lower middle class background and I like all sorts of foods. This has just made me wonder whether people actually do actively avoid certain types of food because they don't think it's appropriate to their status, or whether it's just not something they have ever tried because they haven't been culturally exposed to it. So...
my kids love it when I do sausage, egg & chips. They dip their sausage in the egg & tomato sauce & their chips too & bloody love it

He sounds like my dad. We told him it was an upside down Italian shepherd's pie. Laugh

Of course, now he loves pasta but at the time you'd have thought he was being offered cyanide. Big Grin
