Yes, but as far as I'm aware it's the first case that hasn't been 'flown back for treatment' therefore further infection is very possible

CDC to give a new conference soon... in the run up to this Fox news are saying the person had been home in the community for a few days before being admitted

I think it's only caught by contacts with fluids though , isn't it Jen....it's not airborne or anything ....so hopefully it's spread may be limited ...

they are saying he was showing symptoms from the 24th of Sept (contagious) and was put into hospital on the 28th

They are saying they are finding everyone in contact over those 4 days Baz

Yeah, I'm sure I read that, bad as it is, good hygiene is really all that's needed to stop the spread.  I'm sure I read that even soap and water kills it.

It appears the Deputy who served a quarantine notice to the family of Thomas is now in quarantine - 

Dallas County deputy went to Frisco, Texas, urgent care center as precaution after stomach pain, fatigue; Ebola risk believed low

It is Baz, but i don't think it's at a really scary level for us yet... I'm just keeping an eye on it all.

Apparently the Gov have put four hospitals on alert in case of an out break. Off the top of my head one is in London (obviously), one is def the RVI in Newcastle, I think another is Sheffield, and the other one escapes me. 

That to me makes me think the Gov are taking it seriously. I however will take it seriously (in the island we live on) when people are popping off the mortal coil at a rate.

The other's in Liverpool, Cinds.     Dunno if we're making any provisions... I just saw Alex Salmond singing on the telly....

On the news last week they said the two uni's in Nottingham had all been briefed to spot possible Ebola is students returning from Africa etc so i think they are doing something...Then i see a pic of the the guy being transported in Dallas and just look at it

He was really singing.... it was the end of some Scottish current affairs show I think, I was channel hopping, and there he was singing - I can't find it online anywhere, but I did find a clip of him singing Calendonia with Sandi Thom. He obviously thinks he's got some sort of talent.. look out for him on X Factor next... 

sadly in africa theryre a bit bolloxed ie

not enough treatment centres/drugs/isolation units/medical staff/protective clothing etc...

if it DOES become widespread in the west, we have all of that equipment so we stand a better chance i s'pose

i dont think the west is doing enough to help them in africa

by helping them we help ourselves

I see they're introducing temperature scans both there and over here.  Not sure how effective these will be or what will happen as it can take up to 21 days for symptoms to show and who knows how many people could have been affected by then 

I hope it's better than the TB checks they have at Birmingham airport where names and alleged addresses are taken and they are told to get treatment from a GP but effectively waved through.  You can't make people in this country take medication so what would happen if they are found to have ebola?  Court order to isolate them? 

it's all ifs and buts at the moment but I don't trust our government to protect us

I've read that Ebola sufferers are not contagious until the symptoms start to appear.  Not sure how true this is, though.

as is always the case with situations like that - there is so much conflicting information it's hard to know what is right or not 

They were talking about it on the radio today and confirmed that.

it also said on the news this morning that scans at the airport are a bit worthless as we have no direct flights from Sierra Leone into the UK  - you'd need to scan every single person.
