I have my eye on something and there are already 6 bids on it 3 hrs to go. I have decided how much I'm willing to pay. Should I bid and slap max bid in now or wait till a few mins to go? I am so impatient

You really should wait, but I never do.
Snipe it.
Wait until the last few minutes/seconds!
Oh and details, what is it, how much etc?

Decide on your very maximum top price, my advice would be to wait until 30 seconds to go (make sure you are signed in and have your bid ready to confirm). Of course it depends how the bidding goes it might have gone past your maximum before the 30 seconds

about ÂĢ35 brand new. This one is new but no box.
I have decided to go as for as ÂĢ25 inc postage.
I think that is a good price. over that I may as well get new. Current bid is ÂĢ10.50.. but I just know someone has a high bid on it...
Last 45 seconds with a max bid set up
Never done that before... I'll take a look though. Cheersquote:Originally posted by Essex Angel:quote:Originally posted by Garage Joe:

Snipe if you really want it. Otherwise, you might get one of those annoying ebay newbies [1] come along who tease the prize up by ÂĢ1 each time until one bid over your maximum and then stop.
[1] Or people who have an evil side, like me, who do that for a laugh when drunk.

Thanks everyone . I will be patient and wait till last couple of minutes.
Snipe means dowloading software, it seems. Not sure I want to read the blurb right now.quote:Originally posted by Daniel J*:

I have hoicked the price up like that And got lumbered on occasion too
Before I signed up to Powersnipe, I used to wait until there was only 30 - 34 seconds to go before putting in my bid.
By the time you click on 'commit to buy', there's usually only a few seconds left and it doesn't leave enough time for anyone else to outbid you.

The good thing with a sniper is you set it to Auto bid, you can set it up days before the auction ends, you can then go out, you don't have to sit & watch. It also stops you from going over your intended Max bid, you can also watch how the bidding is progressing without being logged into ebay, so no-one is aware you are interested.

5 seconds barney!! wow I'm impressed, I never have the nerve to go under 20 second meself!
Sounds perfect! I must sort that out. I need to go out soon. Am going to have to rush back to bid .quote:Originally posted by Essex Angel:quote:Originally posted by greenandpink:Snipe means dowloading software, it seems. I wouldn't have thought that afforded sufficient time. By the time you put in your bid and then click to the next page and click on 'commit to buy' 5 seconds has long gone!
I certainly wouldn't risk it.

Yes Hy you're right, if I really really want something I usually wildly overbid (only up to my maximum natch) at the last mo. Obviously its just me but I've never downloaded sniping software because it seems like cheating. Shows what a numpty I am!

Nooo, snipe just means wait until the last minute and snatch it from under someone's nose.
I prefer to do it manually when I can as it's more fun. I make sure I'm logged in, with the bid all set up and hovering over the commit to buy so it's a single click away. I open another browser page and refresh until about 12 seconds away. I then count out aloud and click the commit to buy at about 5 seconds. I've got pretty close before now - 2 or 3 seconds I think.
I'm a wimp, I mostly buy the "buy now" stuff.

You can snipe yourself but if the Auction is on when you have to go out, a sniping tool is good, you choose how many seconds it's set at before it snipes for you. Mine was alway's set to 10 seconds, and I've also been beaten by other snipers. You know when you've been sniped as the person who win's does not show up on the bidding list until they win.
I have been sniped loads... It hurts!quote:Originally posted by Essex Angel:quote:Originally posted by greenandpink:Ohhhhhh!! I seee!
