Say 2 other people have done the max bid thing, instead of it sitting at Β£10.50 for the next week it will auto go round in a circle until 2 of the max bids have been passed.

I would hold back until the actual day and then do it..... Oh btw... i don't actually do Ebay lol

Perzackerly Jen.  If I have my eye on an item I do not bid straightaway - I can either place it on my watch list or bookmark it and keep an eye on it myself.  Depends on how much I want it but if I really really really want it I sign in as it nears the end, wait until it is literally 1 minute from the end, put it in my maximum bid and then, this is the important bit, hold on until less than 20 seconds left and then confirm bid.  As long as you have bid enough to blow the opposition way out of the water then the item is yours for as little as possible.  Good luck in future Saint (I still think of you as Renton).

I found this -

Example

  1. The current bid for an item is $10.00. Tom is the high bidder, and has placed a maximum bid of $12.00 on the item. His maximum bid is kept confidential from other members.

  2. Laura views the item and places a maximum bid of $15.00. Laura becomes the high bidder.

  3. Tom's bid is incremented to his maximum of $12.00. Laura's bid is now $12.50.

  4. We send Tom an email that he has been outbid. If he doesn't raise his maximum bid, Laura wins the item.

    From http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/automatic-bidding.html

I suppose you'd know that someone else had outbid you earlier than you would have done and, if you want to increase your bid, you can.

I don't get how come Laura bid Β£15...but it is only worth Β£12.50...does that mean if Tom bids Β£12.60 then he wins the bidding ???

The automatic bidding means that, whatever amount you put in as your max bid, they will only bid 50p more than the other person's max bid, if it is lower than yours. So, you could bid max Β£50, but if the second highest max bid is Β£10, then you would win it and pay Β£10.50.
