There are two reasons this story would have come out now....its either
1) Blue have reformed and need the publicity
or
2) Someone was about to sell a story on him so he has pre-empted it by outing himself.
I never understand why celebrities need to 'come out' so publicly. Who cares whether he is straight, bi or gay?

There is a third possibility - that he needs the publicity for his solo career.

It would have been just a few years ago. I think people forget these days that the age of consent was only equalised, against fierce opposition in some quarters, in 2000 and that it was 21 for gay men until 1994.
