I got some duck eggs yesterday cos I remembered someone saying in a thread here they had a bigger yolk and were the aceness for dipping. I've never tried them before so was wondering what was the best way to cook them - poached or fried? When I have 'normal' eggs I do prefer poached I just didn't know if duck eggs would be the same - don't want any rubbery white

You'll have to wait a bit longer for your breakfast Saz ... I have no idea

I was going to copy and paste and claim as my own work but cba so here goes..http://www.thekitchn.com/theki...are-duck-eggs-007827
I had a duck egg years ago I boiled it but I did not like it very much I thought it tasted a bit strong compared to a chickens egg and never had one since .. sorry I am not much help, the only way to find out is poach it ..trial and error
Cheers Croc, I'm leaning more towards fried at the minute I was just looking in the fridge to see if there was any bacon and sausage so I could get a bit of a full English going
I think frying is the safest way cos then you can see that it is cooked properly,,,,
Thats what I was thinking
I just put one in the pan (to fry) and the yolk is HUGE!
... and? Did you like it?
Or haven't you finished eating it yet?
Happy to report they were yummy and the yolk to white ratio was excellent
Fab
Hi - I think it was me that mentioned duck eggs - I've been away for a couple of days - I love duck eggs poached but they're equally good fried or boiled (not good scrambled IMO) - glad you enjoyed them
It's weird. I eat duck (the crispier the better) but I have no compulsion to eat to a duck egg.
I love eggs.. but (for absolutely no logical reason) I'm thinking 'duck egg? yuck!'
How weird is that?
They're not too dissimilar from normal hens eggs - the yolk is much bigger and not too much white. As I say they taste similar but 'tastier' somehow.

Exactly! I saw them on sale at the butchers on Saturday and the thought of eating them made me quiver. I LOVE hen's eggs though. Maybe I should be brave and change a duck egg because I love the yolk so the bigger the better!

I don't think I preferred the taste, but having more yolk was fab - I love a good dippy egg
Hi Saz Now you have tried duck eggs, go for the big daddy of them all- the Goose egg. They fill the frying pan and are a meal themselves.
I've never had a duck egg intentionally.

Just the one to start with. They are humungous and will probably feed a whole family for breakfast. You will probably have to use a hammer to break the the shell though. I have had afew of them and they are very tasty but tend to be seasonal.

Duck eggs are strong tasting and are something you either love or hate. Lots of other eggs are out there though- Quail. Pigeon and those they sell in Thailand- the fermented embryonic eggs that seem gross. Anyone tried them? I bow to you if you have.
anything that looks wobbly like those thai eggs look are a NO NO.
NO WOBBLE IN THE GOB!!!!
