its impressive but she looks aged and in the need of a good wash

There is something odd about the lower part of her face , and the earring is strangely placed .. like it's on her face rather than ear . Not sure I like it 

I'm never sure of the target audience for this sort of thing. I find it totally harmless.

I don't like it, I think it's really aging and unflattering I do like the hair though

in fact I'm sure I don't like it ! It looks like it's been done from a photograph , no life about it , and a bit overworked. 

 

Trying to figure what it is about her lower face- it's almost like it's at a slightly different angle to her upper face?

Amazing talent as you say - but I'd hate it if it was me.  Very aging - looks like her 'before' picture for '10 years younger'     She looks like she's pursing her lips a bit.  She looks old and a bit mean with a steely stare.. Not natural at all.

 

I've read that one art critic has said that the upper (eyes) and lower face are actually displaying two different emotions or expressions, hence they don't quite gel or makes the viewer feel at odds with what they are seeing.

mmm.. dunno.. I think it's more the draughtsmanship of it that's the issue,  the angle/ direction of the planes of the face is what's bugging me ! 

 

Looking at it again, it feels to me like everything below the eye's is advancing toward me with the eyes receding.

And god knows what is going on with the washed-out cheeks: she appears to be nurturing a gobbet of gum in her lower right cheek. The hair is dull and lifeless; the glimpse of earring simply lifts her to the status of Sloaney, rather than merely proletarian, undead.

Not fussed one way or the other.

But it did make me think, the style of painting is very much like the blockbuster movie promo stylee .. kind of realist with added schmaltz  

I'm not keen, there have been some beautiful photographs of her published and this doesn't match the standard of capturing her personality. Her cheeks look to big, and her eyes too small. But more importantly, the facial expression is all wrong- where's that full of life face we all love?!

she's been made to look a bit of a chubber, whereas I have always thought of her as a bit boney.

she had two sittings and then the artist used a photograph to complete it.

I agree with it all.

Whilst it is quite a good likeness, it does make her look older than she is.

I'm a Twihard  

Not keen on it, makes her look cold, tired and much older than she is. Its a bit like a passport photo that hasnt came out right. One side of her face seems distorted..

On the news yesterday, the BBC had an interview with the artist who said that originally he had intended to show Kate unsmiling but then changed his mind to show her smiling. If you look just at the top half of the portrait including the eyes I don't get a sense that she is smiling.

 

 

I've just been for a coffee and a read of a newspaper. Apparently the artist is more used to painting wildlife!

 

...and Kate chose him for the portrait. There goes any notion of her having learnt anything in her art history degree!!  lol

I don't like the hazy quality of it... sort of soft focus. It reminds me of one of those cheap tacky pics you used to find in flea markets.

 

It doesn't really capture her i.m.o.

It's not bad, it's just the mouth that seems a bit odd.

I'm with the Guardian critic, really don't like it at all and doesn't capture her spirit at all, q the opposite

 

I saw one comment liken it to a "Vaseline covered lens"
