"Having  brought back two of the classics, the Ice Warriors and the Cybermen, this year  we wanted a brand new monster to create chills in the finale," Moffat said.
"And the thought of stylish, whispering, almost faceless creatures was  an idea that firstly scared me and that I thought would work well in an episode  that looks forward and back."

The showrunner also promised that 'The Name of the  Doctor' will "change the course of Who forever".
"It's full of  surprises and questions that have never been answered in the history of Who, including the Doctor's greatest secret," Moffat  claimed.
"We'll also find out what makes his new companion [Clara, played  by Jenna-Louise Coleman] so impossible and there's a surprise that no-one has  got right so far."

Coleman previously appeared on Doctor Who  as spacefaring Oswin and Victorian governess Clara, with the Doctor attempting  to unravel the mystery of her multiple identities in recent  episodes.
Hinting at what to expect from the finale, Coleman teased: "All  I can say is that Clara hasn't just met the Doctor three times before."

So my theory is this. Clara is the Tardis. So when the Doctor dies perhaps she dies too and comes back as another Tardis, hence the changed interior every time the Doctor regenerates. What do you reckon?

I've been thinking about something along those lines too. After all, we have seen the TARDIS take human form before...

Exactly! That episode with Suranne Jones was one of my all time favourites of the new series. The Doctor seems to know how Clara has died before so perhaps he also has realised she is the TARDIS. (Thanks for pulling me up on the capitalisation there EL.)

I really, really, promise you I wasn't!

I was concentrating so much on my own typing, I didn't notice you'd used lower-case - to the extent that I actually corrected myself before posting...

No, as true Who fans we need to get these details right!

Sorry I haven't been posting in here as much as I expected to. It's just Saturday evening is often a bad time to view so I've found myself doing it on catch-up at daft times of the day/week.

I like the idea of Clara being the TARDIS (is careful to make sure it's all in capitals. ) BUT ....The Doctor in his present incarnation has seen Clara die twice and yet neither he nor the TARDIS are different.

Och, who cares about the time?

You just leap in here as and when you have something you want to say.

I LOVED this episode!

Hello again!  Yep, me too. Best of the series imo. I always love exploring the innards of the TARDIS. I'm loving this Doc/Clara banter/relationship too. Magic!

BBC Worldwide have announced there will be a special Doctor Who convention this year to mark the 50th anniversary.

The event will be held at ExCeL in London, beginning on Friday, 22 November, with tickets for over 15,000 fans.

BBC Worldwide’s Amanda Hill said: “We cannot wait to welcome Doctor Who fans from around the world to London in November. It’s going to be a spectacular weekend! Generations of fans young and old have been captivated by the Doctor and we’ve seen the show go from strength to strength, enjoying something of a global march over the past few years attracting new followers from Turkey to Brazil to South Korea. 2013 is an opportunity for fans around the world to come together and celebrate the glorious past, present and future of Doctor Who.”

Only just catching up on that episode now...

Yeah, I liked that line, and as for Strax threatening to execute his horse for "failing in its mission"...

Also enjoyed the reference to Tegan Jovanka...

But, BUT, John Hurt!

I know!   I thought it was Christopher Eccleston at first.     I cried at the kiss... I'm still a bit wobbly.

In the fine tradition of this magnificent show they leave us hanging in the most spectacular way though Kaffs.
