Hi Cologne I fall somewhere in the middle.... of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion of things, but on the other hand I feel that the clergy (especially at his level) should be non political..... at least in public...

He seems to spend more time on political matters than religious ones and when he does discuss religious matters, he makes a right hash of them

I agree with him and I feel, as he's a member of the House of Lords, he has to be political. I realise he's unelected, but, until the system changes, he has to vote. I'm just glad that somebody in such a high position is saying what many people are thinking.

PS. Yogi, I dug out my ancient computer. It's very noisy and very slow, but it will do for now.

of course he  can air his views  people have a  choice whether they want to listen/agree/disagree with them.

I find it very difficult to seperate religion from politics since they are all about people with power of some sort.

Of course he has a right to comment.

Several centuries ago he would have been able to raise an army and have the Tories holed up in Warwick or somewhere. They are too soft nowadays.

Totally agree with him, he's was bang on when he said this is not what the voters voted for...he's a right to his opinions like anyone else.

I'm glad he spoke up.  Spoke for the people that politicians find it so easy to ignore....us!

However, I'm not comfortable with him using his office to go political.  Hope that makes sense even tho it sounds contradictory.

Somebody made the same point today on 5live.

Thing is, he has to legislate as a member of the House of Lords, so he's a politician (unelected) as well as the Primate of England.

I know what you mean cologne and to an extent I agree.  Lets face it, someone with clout has to question this coalition and some of its crazy policies, but at the same time I get an itch when I see State and Church going head to head.  See!  I still sound contradictory!  I know what I feel but my brain ain't co-operating tonight.
