greetings Downton fans How did we like last night's episode? I thought it a little slow to be honest, and there wasn't enough emphasis on our favourite main characters! I still enjoyed it though, and it was good to see Mr Carson shine, he takes his role at Downton very seriously indeed doesn't he Poor Daisey, oh dear.. Mrs patmore shouldn't have pressured her into accepting william's proposal, I hope she doesn't have to go through with it I was fascinated by mary's new curling tongs I wonder where the props department found them! Mrs Crawley vs Cora is rather entertaining, i think for all Mrs Crawley is treading on some toes, she certainly means well Branson is annoying, what a lunatic!

Loved it .....................although  he's pure evil it's good to have the scheming Thomas back. I love Sunday night at Downton 

Haha I have to agree sooz! I hate Thomas but it just wouldn't be right without him there!

Did I miss something? Wasn't Mrs. Patmore going blind last series? She seems fine now. Lavinia's secret was boring! Still loving the Dowager Countess 

Mrs patmore had cataracts, lord Grantham sent her to London & paid for an operation to have it fixed she's fine now

And I agree about lavvy's secret- let's hope she lied to Mary and it comes back to bite her in the you know what!

Your welcome It was a great episode; Anna accompanied mrs patmore to london and went all detective whilst there. She found mr bates's mother who revealed that he went to prison so his wife Vera didn't have to! She stole something or other..

I loved it as I always do!!! I also thought Lavvy's secret was a bit naff and there HAS to be more to it than that, surely?? She is far too wet for Matthew and that Robert is so slimey, poor Mary. I loved all the looks between M&M, she should take a leaf out of Naughty Edith's book and just snog the man!!! Can't believe Branson turned out to be a bit of a nutter....he had so much potential as a character. Chuffed to bits to see Mr Bates back again....and there is now a reason to bring him back with the sad end to Mr Lang's time at Downton. I shed a tear for Mr Lang...shellshock was so frowned upon, or even dismissed back then and it must have been awful for those who suffered from it, going unsupported and unacknowledged.

 

I hate Thomas with a passion this week and the way he smokes a ciggie has been winding me up since the first ever episode  I guess it must be a testament to Rob's acting that we hate his character so much, he is obviously doing something right!! I really hope that Carson and Bates bring him down a peg or three soon! Nasy Mrs Patmore bullying Daisy into accepting William....he is a sweetie and all, but is drippy and if she doesn't love him, they will both be miserable. I can't decide if they will kill him off or of he will come back a hero for saving Matthew and Daisy will suddenly fall for him!!! Or maybe he will come back and Daisy will have met someone else and dums him.

 

I adore the mini-war between The Dowager Countess & Cora against Mrs Crawley! I have to say that Mrs Crawley winds me up too, but I love her for it! I can't see her winning this battle though!!

 

The hussy Ethel is soooo obviously going to get 'in trouble' with the dashing officer....can't see that having a happy ending.

 

I was, once again, filled with envy at the outfits worn by Cora and Mary....they have the most spectacular clothes! And I was in fits at Miss O'Brien's night wear!! The night cap was brilliant!! And her hair was bum length ....that's a serious do!!

 

Can't wait for next Sunday!!!

Mrs B you're so right about Thomas' character - he's so deliciously hateful that I love him 

 

I agree about Lavvy's excuse being a bit on the weak side - hopefully we'll find out there's more to the story as the series progresses.  I loved the tussle about where they were to eat and sit - Good Lord not with the Officers!!!

 

I'm not buying the Daisy/William story - tis all a bit silly   can't wait for next week 

Poor Mr Lang, I felt so sorry for him.

Thomas is a great baddie, Rob James-Collier plays him well.

Good to have Mr Bates back, although I hope he gets more screen time next week. He and Anna need to get together, and I hope they don't drag it out too long.

Loving the power struggle betwen Mrs Crawley and Lady Cora, I think the sparks are going to fly between those two.

I also like the way they are softening Lady Mary's character and hope she eventually ends up with Mathew.

 

 

 

I'm busy so am several days behind with the papers. Just read a bit today about Julian Fellowes donating  40 kilopoonds to the real Tories. He has also been made a peer, as it were, although I'm not sure that these two facts are connected.

Doesn't stop Downton being fab telly though.

It doesn't stop it being overacted carp with, as Suzy said, bits of pantomime n music hall thrown in.

I am not understanding the relationship between O'Brien and Thomas tho.....is she his long lost mum , maybe ?? Or is it just power ?

Oh yeah! I remember the Anna part but I'd completely forgotten about Mrs. Patmore having surgery. Must have been a very tricky operation in those days.

We watched it on catchup tonight. Quite interesting but there are still clumsy parts of the script that make us laugh. Better than "body farm for you!" though. (one of mrs jer's rare jerks)

That's better Oooh drama, drama..! I thoroughly enjoyed tonight's offering Wonderful to have Mr Bates back, I'm on tenterhooks there though waiting for the wife to come back and throw a spanner in the works! Good to see Ethel have a bit of action, pun not intended, I was hoping she'd get a storyline pop up. Oh deary me, she's in trouble for sure! As it did happen more so during the wars.. I hope the colonel (was he a colonel) isn't going to shun her Cora was more enjoyable tonight And I so wished that lady Mary was going to run into matthew's arms upon his return! Good to see his gorgeous self back, although a brief stint as a captive may have been a good catalyst to the reunion we're hoping for..

A good one tonight  it's consistently good TBH.

Agreed...another fab episode of Downton. More thana  tad excited to see Bates back where he belongs...can't halp thinking that Vile Vera will be causing trouble for him and Anna soon though  

 

Told you the Ethel was going to get in trouble  *smug mode*.....I'm betting she'll get dumped on by the Colonel and that the Granthams will help her put in some way....maybe William will marry her after Daisy dumps him!

 

I cheered like a loon when Matthew turned up at the concert and was pleading with Mary to run and leap at him....he looked very edible in his uniform with his big baby blues that seemed to be begging Mary to come to him *sigh* Glad they got Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary) singing as she is a very talented lady and is apparantly a very good jazz singer. It was nice to see Edith and Mary getting on a bit....maybe having her heart broken has made Edith a bit nicer! Sybil needs to watch herself with Branson....even though I said that they would end up together, not sure I want them to now that he has shown his nastier side!!!

 

Loved the spat between Cora and Mrs C!!! Can't imagine Mrs C will be gone for long!!! Also hoping Carson and Bates will gang up on Thomas and put him back in his place....was it my imagination or did Miss O'B seem more aware of Thomas's nasty side? Will have to pay more attention on my watch back later on!!!

 

Can't wait for Sundays at 9pm....my fave time of the week!!!!

I saw her in Clash of the Titans at the weekend - my stars she looked fabulous in that (although I still think the best thing she was ever in was The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie)

 

She's fabulous in Downton and gets all the best lines 

 

I'm hoping Mrs Bates meets a very nasty end but I doubt it will be any time soon as they'll want to keep us in suspenders about what's going to happen

I know yer just jokin' me mind. Am I the only one who thinks La Smith to be a one trick pony who sounds like a twelve year old Leeds boy with a chronic sinus issue? I prefer Eileen Atkins.
