Just watched it and I am liking the devices they are using to prepare the way for the post war changes that occurred. But I think some of the story strands ..e.g the will she , won't she marry without love ... a bit formulaic . However, I still love it and , as always ... for me at least .. Maggie Smith steals the show

I think Bates is back next week, Skylark.

Great ! I hope he hasnt murdered his wife , although wouldnt blame him if he did

The wife is horrible, she deserves a fatal accident, at least. Then Bates can marry Anna.

I don't make a habit of wishing bodily harm on people - honest, Baz.

I kind of felt sorry for poor misguided Mr Molesley falling for our Anna and getting rebuked.  Poor William is going to have his heart broken because Daisy doesn't want to be his sweetheart  and he going to war and all

Trust Thomas to get a cushy job  and despite O'Brien being evil personified, I felt it was touching how she recognised that Lang is still shell shocked and covered for him

I kept wondering if she had an ulterior motive.

Yes.... I agree with all that Pengy.  although Mr Moseley creeps me out a bit.... plus he is a draft dodger

She said she had a brother that was shell shocked and was sent back to the front before he'd recovered and had ultimately died so I felt on this occasion she was being honest.

Me too... I think it was a way of adding another dimension to her character...... which up to now has  been pretty dire!

It will be good if she has more to her, than just plain evil.

agreed ladies - it's giving a side to her that's almost vulnerable   perhaps we'll see or get to know what has made her so hard hearted???  We had a glimpse of another side to her when she went to retrieve the soap that she left by the bath that Lady Cora slipped on and eventually caused a miscarriage?  She had intended to pick it up but Lady Cora stepped on it before she could intervene!

Have watched the last episode a couple of times now (gotta love sky+!!) and also have to admit that my pash for Matthew grows stronger and stronger, as does my crush on Lord Grantham!! Missed Bates loads and can't wait for his return next week! Can't believe old Draft Dodger even thought he was worthy of the lovely Anna....hope Bates gives him what he deserves! I'm sure Vera will be around for ages, making trouble for Bates and keeping him from Anna....I would find a nasty accident that maybe resulted in the oxygen supply being cut off to her brain, a most suitable outcome!!!!!

And as for Edith  she ruined Mary by spilling about her nortiness with the Turkish dead dude...then goes and lobs herself at a married man....the shameless hussy! Hope Mary finds out...her revenge could be spectacular!!! Mary did sort of tell Matthew how she felt when she said she wanted him and always would (or something) when talking about going to the Abbey for dinner....still...it looks like they are both being stitched up by their respective new partners...are they trying to dig the dirt about the Turkish dead dude??

I veer betwwen hating the smarmy and cowardly Thomas and feeling so sorry for him because of his sexuality and having to deny it etc....his feelings for the blinded soldier were obvious!!

Miss O'Brien...well, I am warming to her as well and she was so lovely to the new Valet...although I also reckon she has an ulterior motive for almost everything she does!! Can't believe Daisy wants to refuse the lovley (but slightly wet) William....they would be soooo cute together! That Ethel is also irritating me....

Cora had some stunning outfits this week....major envy!!!

Can't wait for Sunday!!!!!!

I don't want Matthew to marry Lavinia either....not cos she is nasty (she is a tad drippy at the moment though!)...but cos Mary is so fabulous! I also keep expecting Mrs Crawley to say 'I'm Harriet Jones, Prime Minister'!!!!

Thank you!   For the life of me I couldn't think what I knew her from!

I've just watched the opening episode (I'm always behind!)   loved it, loved it.. and I'm dreading anything happening to Matthew.     Sign me up for the let's lynch Vera squad     I'm also a fan of Mr Bates (liked him in Larkrise too) and Maggie Smith is just pure class.

You say US market like that's a bad thing  I don't think Europeans are the only arbiters of taste. Anyway, I love it. Even if it was over the top panto or music hall I'd still watch it (out of choice)

It is over the top panto and I understand that Dame Maggie Smith will be doing, as it were, "A litle bit of what you fancy!" in a tribute to Marie Lloyd in Episode four.
