Aw kaffy, sorry to hear about your spoiler. I've called my SIL to tell her to stay off twitter until she's seen the episode, she's been on holiday too so has 2 episodes to catch up on. I wonder if the actress who plays Sybil wanted to leave, or whether they just wrote her out..? Either way, I'll really miss her I hope Tom stays with baby Sybil, he'll probably end up in prison or something though

Ah no worries, Sweet - that's what I get for watching Homeland 'live' for the first time!      I don't think I enjoyed the programme any less though - they did really well not letting the cat out of the bag that she was leaving though, didn't they?   I don't think Tom will run off with the baby - looks like there will be a big storyline about her being brought up Catholic.  He might go though - i can see Mary and Matthew bringing her up because it looks to me like they're not going to be able to have their own children.     I don't think Mary's a cold fish really - I think she just has trouble showing her emotions.

I get too carried with this, don't I?

The death of popular Downton Abbey character  Lady Sybil was kept a closely guarded secret until Sunday's dramatic  episode.

However, despite viewers being previously  unaware of what woes were to come in the episode, it proved a ratings winner,  with 9.5million tuning in.

The period drama managed 100,000 more viewers  than The X Factor results show, which screened just before on 1TV1.

Lady Sybil was seen dying of eclampsia  soon  after giving birth to a healthy baby girl, leaving her husband Tom  Branson  (Allen Leech) and family devastated.

Following the episode, fans took to Twitter  in their droves to express their 'grief' over the departure of actress Jessica  Brown Findlay from the series.

Celebrity fan of the show, former Blue Peter  presenter Zoe Salmon tweeted: 'My head still hurts after crying over Lady  Sybil's death. #downton.'

Before giving birth, the family were torn  between conflicting advice from the family physician Doctor Clarkson and a  specialist Sir Philip Tapsell (Tim Pigott-Smith).

Dr Clarkson noticed worrying symptoms when  she was in labour and urged the family to bring Sybil to hospital, while Sir  Philip disagreed.

However, by the time Sybil's husband Tom  decides she should be brought to hospital, the baby is already coming and his  wife gives birth to a baby girl safely.

However, after going to bed to recover from  the labour, Sybil wakes up experiencing the eclampsia fits predicted by Dr  Clarkson and dies in front of her horrified family.

Her grief-stricken mother Cora, Countess Of  Grantham, and many other members of the family blame Robert, Earl of Grantham,  for Sybil's death after he sided with Sir Philip's bad advice not to Sybil to  hospital.

Downton's former chauffeur Tom, now part of  the family, is left devastated and now a single father to their baby girl, who  he names Sybil.

Mmm well she hasnt grown on me. She moaned about getting help, now she has it but still not happy. Plus being nasty to the new kitchen maid ,albeit thru jealousy, doesn't help. I find her nasty, and self-centred

Well that took me surprise! I've just had a recent experience with all that pre-eclampsia stuff so it really hit home just how much more precarious child birth must have been way back then. Great drama though, I didn't think I'd cry and then Maggie Smith did that little wobble in the hallway and then I was in floods.

I think Matthew is going to give that farm/small holding on the estate to Tom to manage.

I like, or rather, understand Mary too. She's all about self preservation and stiff upper lip.

Downton Abbey star Brendan Coyle has revealed that the cast know when the show will end.
The actor, who plays valet John Bates, joked that the hit period drama would turn into Emmerdaleif it continued into a more recent era.

Downton Abbey S03E04: Brendan Coyle as Bates

"I can pretty much say all of us know when Downton is going to end," Coyle told the Radio Times.
"This is a show with a finite life. If we bring this into the '50s, it's Emmerdale."
Speaking of his own character, who is accused of his wife's murder, he added: "Bates was in the Boer War. He would have killed a lot of people. Does that mean he can kill his wife? What does it do to you?"
Insiders have predicted that Downton Abbey will run for two more series, before drawing to a close when key actors move on to other projects.
Jessica Brown Findlay, who played Lady Sybil, is already filming Winter's tale with Russell Crowe, while Michelle Dockery and Rob James-Collier apparently want to launch US careers.
Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellows recently revealed that he is interested in creating a prequel to the series, focusing on the beginning of the relationship between Cora and Robert.
