I tried that link and it failed saying,
"The specified service does not exist as an installed service"

I tried the nearest 'next' option and its sed,
"Only one instance of wusa.exe is allowed to run"
I think that means you've been taken over - and they're trying to prevent you from regaining control!
IE has completely crashed
P.S. I hope you know I'm kidding?
I've downloaded 73 updates and now have a new little green square logo with a tick. Does that mean I've done it right? Thanks.
You've almost certainly done it right. I assume the green tick means that your Windows and Internet Explorer are updated.
IE has completely crashed
If IE is still complelely crashed it sounds as if you installed the wrong update version. You may have to get your computer checked out by a computer repair shop. If you want to do it yourself have a look at this Microsoft page:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378
Try method 1 first - reset the internet explorer settings.
If that doesn't work then try method 2 which involves reinstalling Internet Explorer.
Nothing works on IE now since i tried to download your "fix it" link above.
All was ok before that, now its crashed.
Off to the repair shop, i guess

I'm sorry to hear that. The links I provided were to the official Miscrosoft web pages and should have fixed the problems.

I now see that m'PC updated IE on the 22/9 and on serching for update just now it has put in a windows 7 update.
Its odd cos i asked Virgin security and a local pc repair guy and neither has heard anything of an IE security issue

Google Internet Explorer Security Warning September 2012, and you'll find plenty of info about it, Saint.
its going in for a health check 2moro cos i hate fiddling with tech
I'll be outta action for a while - hope you can manage without my charm?
"Some security experts said it would be too cumbersome for many PC users to implement the measures suggested by Microsoft."
Wish i'd known that

I refuse to pay any bill you send me as I have not been negligent in any way and reject any responsibility for what you have done to your computer.

I'd get new guys, there is a massive security problem - we got a bulletin last Friday from Microsoft with information about security patches (updates). They have already been applied. At work that is
Renton, have you taken your laptop into a repair shop because IE has crashed? Why not just uninstall IE and then download and install a new one?
SAZ - i look at unistall programmes but i can't see anything saying Internet Explorer anything
Or do I look elsewhere? I'm not pc aware y'see
Ok i found how to do it - IE 8 aint there just IE9
it sed IF i uninstall that it may affect other programmes using Windows 7
It says here that it's a windows feature that you have to 'turn off' to unistall I've never actually bothered removing it myself, I just use other browsers

Pretty straightforward instructions, but it's probably not something you're familiar with so if you're already booked in to see the tech peeps and prefer leaving it for them then you can I guess
Thank you SAZ
i also have probs backing up me poota - it won't let me do it so that's another thing of concern so i shall hand over mine lil baby tomoz
Just heard that a guy I know was called by Microsoft and they explained that they were aware of the problems on his computer and to rectify it they will have to do so from their end ,they asked him to switch his computer on and and they would clean it from their end remotely.
He has now been advised to contact his bank as this looks and sounds like a scam.
I got a call from them and the guy asked me if I woukld take part in a survey about microsoft service by answering a few questions.. I declined.
Rotters is one word for them Baz
Thanks erinp for bringing this scam to people's attention
Microsoft have a policy of not ringing people saying there's a problem with their computer so there is no doubt it is a scam.
Some of the scammers are out and out criminals who are out to get your credit card details and to plant trojan viruses on your computer.
Others are just unscruplous businesses (at least one is in the UK and used to be a Microsoft partner until Microsoft sacked them) who will try to convince you that there is a problem on your computer in order to sell you software which you probably don't need.
