I think I was dressed exclusively in M&S and C&A until I went clothes shopping on my own. I can remember going to trendy places like Etam, Topshop and Wembley Market after I was released from the tyranny of ribbons and chintz.

OMG! I remember going to the massive Brentford Nylons in Brentford proper, just by the elevated A4 and next to the massive Beechams HQ with the huge neon Lucozade sign. My mum and Nana bought all their net curtains there...pure static for days

We've still got a hardware shop in the village so if anyone wants an 'ose or some forkandles, let me know

There's one near me up the Elephant. I love going in there...everything from paint, light bulbs and plumbing stuff to food containers, stationary and cleaning products.

Wow now that really is spooky. For some reason I was thinking of this shop a few minutes ago and thought ......oooooooh I'll pop in and post - and it's here already

I absolutely loved Chelsea Girl and Kemps, Van Allen and Etams.

Oooh - Van Allen, that's a blast from the past.      I remember Chelsea Girl too - all the girls in school wanted a Saturday job there, but, surprise, surprise, it was the best looking girl in school that landed one!  I remember the assistants all had to wear black skirts or trousers and red tops.
